Framing Britney, thoughts?

I guess if it wasn't true then she would speak out about it but instead she's thanked the free Britney movement. Very shocking. Even if she's more unwell than we realise she has fewer freedoms than say Kanye who has been allowed to be far more 'mad' in public than she has.

They said in the documentary that there were court sealed documents. I know nothing of the American legal system but there must be a massive reason for that, not that I can think of one.

Is it available to watch in the UK yet?

There was an implication in the film that she consented to conservativeship as a means to have access to visitation of her children. If this is accurate then it strikes me as a dreadful blackmail that has facilitated the situation. It might also explain her being more bold in challenging it now as the boys will be reaching an age where they are able to make their own decisions about seeing their mom.

Whether the conservativeship is warranted or not, the events that put her in that situation are a disgrace, and anyone who thinks we have moved on from that today is deluded.

Britneys "breakdown" happened a decade after Princess Diana died, and 12 years on this type of stuff is still happening to women in the public spotlight.

Agreed, there is something sealed that we don't know. However if it is something so serious that Britney is incapable of managing any Elmer of her life independently, I question whether she should be working (and she's clearly has capacity to make decisions about that as she has done so in refusing to work while Jamie remains in control.

Would the simple fact of her celebrity be enough?

I thought it sounded like awful blackmail.

I didn't understand why the estranged father had the power, rather than her mum who she does get on with?

Completely agree!

It’s so sad. Seeing her being chased by the paparazzi was really disturbing. I can totally understand why she flipped and hit the photographers car with the umbrella.

Are paparazzi (like in the film) still a thing now? There was a suggestion that it was particularly bad before so I'm guessing it must be different now?

I watched this last night - I'd read the reviews and was really looking forward to it and it was SO dull! Yes, she was horribly exploited by a sexist and misogynistic industry and seemingly she is also being screwed over by her father. But there was nothing new in the documentary, those commenting were an assortment of very random individuals, some of whom knew or had known Britney but most of whom simply speculated about a celebrity they'd never met.

It made me cringe in parts. Like when she was asked about being a virgin and the way she was treated.

It made me realise looking back how much she was actually put through. So much misogyny. That alone was shocking enough. Poor woman.

I do agree Dappled. Also...if it wasn't true, don't you think she might have made an appearance? Made a statement? Her absence of comment is conspicuous.

Have you seen celebrity a 21st century story? It was a 4 part documentary on bbc2. It was really interesting. Part of it was about the media interest in Britney, they interviewed the man who controlled the paparazzi that followed Britney. They also looked at how Instagram has changed the paparazzi and how little money the make now vs 20 years ago. Well worth a watch if you haven't seen it.

From what I gather I don’t think she would be allowed to make a comment as her father literally controls everything she does. Seems strange that she can work and have a boyfriend but have absolutely no say in anything that she does. Really weird!

What summed it up was her Dad meeting with her 'team' & deciding her work schedule. Without her there. She's an adult, the breadwinner & lucid enough to post on Instagram ( tho obv, worryingly, tense & unhappy when doing so) so why was she not included. They just said decided she'd work on her birthday. No one said let's consult her etc. Whoever runs her money & life shouldn't be a family member who makes money out of doing so. It's leaving her open to familial financial abuse & coercive control & abuse.

I watched it last night and found it so sad and feel so sorry for her. I remember a lot of it happening at the time and I used to buy the gossip mags back then which makes me feel terrible. It was so out of control and the parallels between hers and Princess Diana's treatment are scary. The paparazzi hounded her and even when she had her children with her which is disgusting. And the terrible interview questions throughout her career. She truly was chewed up and spat out by the entertainment industry and what is sad is that not much has really changed since then. I hope she finds happiness one day it is just such a sad story especially with her children.

Do her children live with her full time? I have watched the documentary but wasn't sure.

Kevin Federline has custody of the children and she gets visitation.

I found it very sad.

I do think she was/is vulnerable to being taken advantage of so does probably need that legal protection but can't understand why the father is the one to have that power.

Horrified to see how she was treated in the media. I could see at the time that she was being demonized in the tabloids but have to say I was shocked at some of those interviewers. What on earth made it ok for adults to bully and interrogate a young girl about such personal things??

I'm not usually sympathetic to the "plight" of celebs but i was really disgusted by how she has been treated. A hard watch. Not sure who is in her corner. No wiser after watching that.

It was awful to see the photographers hounding her and the interviews she did. :She wasn’t the only one either, the photographers hounded these young women desperate to get photos of them in compromising positions with their underwear on show etc and they were allowed to do it because it sold magazines and made money.

It’s hard to know what to believe regarding her mental health issues and abilities but I do struggle to understand how Britney is seen as capable enough to work and have romantic relationships but not able to have any say over who runs things regarding her money and her own care.

Some of the questions she was asked in interviews were disgusting. Should never have been allowed. She's been completely exploited by people she should be able to trust. No wonder she's mentally unwell. Shameful

Totally!! It’s unbelievable what they asked her. And she really seemed/seems like a sweet girl, it’s such a sad situation. I used to buy celebrity magazines, I feel bad for it now.
