BRINGINNG UP BABY!!!! 2ND EPISODE THREAD!

Hi, I would thought I would start the 2nd epidsode thread after the near 1000 replies from the first epidsode.....!

They were just debating it on GMTV!.... after there was a shocking response following the first epidsode...... stating the approaches are not validated any longer..... ... CV????? mainly about having a baby sleep in the same room with parents and the link around cot death.....

So MN let the discussions begin... because it is on again at 9pm tonight so we can see what other "methods" CV can suggest that are....

Hey massive, I agree but feel I need to watch..... I know it will make it but I am also interested in all of the different approaches outcomes.

All 3 mentors (if you can call CV a mentor)on the Wright Stuff last wednesday after the first show and CV said she had been showing parents her way of bringing up babies for over 20 years.... how sad is that! I would actually like to see how "her babies" turned out in comparision to parents who actually spend time with them, love, kiss and cuddle their babies impulsivly....

The exec producer was on the today prog this a.m to defend the show re failing to convey government guidelines clearly. the facts about co-sleeping seem very misrepresented. They're saying high risk of cot deaths, but I'm sure I read somewhere that the royal college of midwives had done research that showed that - if guidelines re no drink or meds etc were followed - co-sleeping was actually beneficial and that in societies where co-sleeping is hte norm, cot death is unheard of.

to watch or not to watch - that is the question?

Like last week I will watch 1/2 of it then turn to Flight of the Conchords on bbc3 for light relief... unless I get engrossed, it is proper car crash tv. Which I find objectionable on many levels.

.... either way I am sure there will be a lot of MN will have their opinions once the show airs tonight...

NoviceKnitter totally agree on the way cosleeping was misrepresented on the Today Programme this morning - I think at one point the FSID woman was trying to say something about it but she got cut off by the interviewer.

It will be interesting to see how cosleeping is shown in Ep2 - and whether they present it safely or not (I'm predicting not, going by the shock tactics of Episode 1...)

There is evidence that safe cosleeping protects against SIDS:

www.babyreference.com/Cosleeping&SIDSFactSheet.htm
and UNICEF "how to cosleep safely" leaflet: www.babyfriendly.org.uk/pdfs/sharingbedleaflet.pdf

I think I will watch it tonight, but will have to make sure to remove all possible projectiles from the room first so I don't damage anything once I start throwing stuff!!

Yes I shall have to sit on my hands and possibly gag myself from shouting at the CV .........
