What’s your TV set up. Currently have Netflix and virgin but thinking of changing coz we hardly ever use all the extra channels. Mainly bbc, CBeebies and then Netflix. Anyone used roku?

In your position I would buy a roku box. they are inexpensive but would allow you to watch netflix and bbc etc. You just need to plug it into your tv

Amazon prime
Disney plus
Netflix
Virgin.

Used in that order. Could get rid of virgin completely as we rarely watch live TV.

have a look at post office internet. often very cheap, and apparently they use the same lines as talktalk. haven't used them myself though

I would not go with post office. They were cheap but I had no end of problems with them and it took them months and months of not accepting responsibility for the problems
But then again who knows I might just be a one off I guess

I find the prime membership in general really good value.

Lots to watch on there, series, kids programmes and some reallly good originals.

I have the fire stick. From that I access Netflix/YouTube/Disneyplus / iplayer/ ch 4 catch up etc

It may have changed but last time I checked unless you have gone for one of the very bloated tv packages you pay virtually nothing for Virgin tv if you are paying for your internet connection via them.

And the thing about Virgin is it is now the only cable based internet connection (ie most others piggy back on standard telephone lines or are wireless).

What they do make you pay for is a telephone line, though have to admit in lockdown I have really appreciated a landline phone which is free in the evenings and weekend. Long chats, no cost and better still none of that really impossible mobile unreliablity.

This may no longer be necessary as the Government was going to bring in some guideance about companies not requiring you to have a landline.

So if you keep your internet, get the cheapest tv package, you can then use their tv box to set up your netflix account or whatever.

But if you aren't bothered about having your internet connection via cable you can probably get everything you want cheaper.

Do not go with Post Office.
Perhaps they may have changed recently, but last year I dealt with 3 different customers who used PO broadband. Apart from the poor connection speeds and dropouts, customer service was a nightmare if any thing went wrong - probably one of the worst I've ever dealt with.

Thanks @stumbledin. That makes sense. I think BT are now doing superfast cable in our area now but I’ve heard it’s expensive. I quite like having a landline as it’s handy when I’m making calls and want to look on my mobile phone at the calendar. I need to look into the package a bit more. It feels a bit overwhelming

Why is it that every internet provider is an ok price in the first year then goes up loads after?? Every one I've looked at!!

I have a Smart TV and have Sky, Netflix and Amazon Prime.

It costs around £70 a month, but none are in contract and be cancelled at any time.
My Sky includes the latest fibre broadband, free calls on my landline and all the calls/texts/data I need on my mobile, which I bought outright

You have to phone the supplier and re-negotiatea a new deal before the contract ends same as you would for Insurance, AA etc. I suspect they rely on people just accepting the rolling contract.
BT wanted to charge MiL £60 pounds when her contract ended but we managed to lower it to £32.
I pay the same now as 3 years ago but with more thrown in.

Oh right I've never had to do it I mean when my ex moved it a couple of years ago I went with post office. I wasn't going to stay there anyway so I moved to Plusnet fibre. I think it might be coming up for renewal soon. I've never even had to/tried to negotiate anything! I don't think I'd know what to say!

We have a smart tv and sky (just the basic package) then have Netflix and Disney plus.

I have a Roku in my bedroom and it's fine but if you have a smart Tv it does the same as that.

Use sky to record stuff so would miss it.

DD has an x box which she can also watch. sky go though

I expect that when your Plusnet contract is coming to an end, they will send you an end-of-contract reminder and offer you an account review which is when you ask nicely for a better deal. Even if they only offer to keep you at the same rate that's better than a price increase.
Broadband companies expect customers to barter like this.

Your post made me think I should look again at my "bundle" as it was last time I did this that they pointed out the tv provision was only a small part of the monthly charge.

So internet alone (slowest) is £44pm, same speed and phone £51pm

And which I didn't know you can have a rolling monthly contract!

I do sometimes wonder if I couldn't just make do with a FreeView Plus digital box which can record.

But in fact it is the Catch Up service on Virgin I like and the cable broadband.

Really interested to know if you can renegotiate.
