Starts on monday, I don't want to say anything about Jacks personality and get the thread deleted but I'm going to be interested to see how it goes. Jamie's show has been great even now he's just filming on his phone and I've picked up lots of tips - like the roasting of veg then blending to make a pasta sauce. After all of Jacks deleted tweets she's set the bar very high for herself and I'm hoping she does smash it

I don't think she will stand the TV test of time, and soon will be a victim again. I have followed Jack for years, - I don't know how to do Twitter, but there is always a drama of one kind or another. She claims she is sober, ( I think she just gave up drinking) how did she manager to be drunk, work 17hours a day, have no money and look after SB.

I can’t see it working.

I can't stand people who use Twitter to augment and commodify their sense of victimhood and to try to lose other people work. So I won't be watching on principle. She seems to have a horrible, charmless attitude, and I can't imagine she'd be pleasant to watch, anyway.

I don't blame her for posting those Tweets, she clearly should have got that job at channel 4, it's what she's been doing for years.

I also noticed that JO's show has changed significantly from it's first week. The recipe I saw was for Salmon, "but if you've run out", you can always add use chicken. What planet are these people on?

I won’t be watching. She’s a narcissist

I thought Jack was non binary and went by they/them. I can see that going down really well with the average viewer. Is they going to flounce off if misgendered by a co presenter?

I think she came across well which is inspiring giving that she has struggled with anxiety. I wish her well. She's had some demons to deal with. Viper like behaviour towards her is not necessary.

Except she claimed to be "too timid" or something to do you tube videos.

Just because she's good at the budget recipe bit doesn't mean she would be any good on TV.

Watching it on iplayer now...it's not...good.
Jack not making it into the studio meant Matt carrying the whole thing for 45 minutes - the sound/tech on Jack's side was bad then disappearing entirely. Blush I've been there re tech going horribly wrong, just not in front of the nation. Hopefully she can make it in to the studio tomorrow so it less stilted. Matt did his best but like all the virtual shows I have seen, you can only do so much via skype/zoom.
I do stick up for Jack wrt jif lemons, nowt wrong with them. Rupy was a sweetie.

I wasn't aware of who Jack Monroe was, her empire, or any of this back story regarding JO et al but happened to be stuck under sleeping baby when this came on.

In my opinion she seemed very very nervous and appeared to agree with whatever Matt had to say, so she didn't really being anything else to the table. And yeah her tech was pants and then she disappeared altogether.

Despite that link being very biased, I did cringe for her reading those tweets. JO has worked with C4 since forever, is a proven, experienced tv chef with a following and the ability and know how when it comes to filming a show, of course he should get the gig.

She clearly knows her stuff wrt making a meal out of what you've got, i don't doubt that, but by her own admission she is timid and perhaps to physically well enough to host such a show. I dunno, how anyone can royally chuck their toys out the pram like that and then expects to be taken seriously baffles me.

She's an absolute joke, and this just proves it. Leave it to the professionals.

Well there were some teething problems, that’s for sure. But it was only the first day so let’s see. I assumed that Jack will doing this remotely throughout (she’s said she’s immuno-compromised I think), which certainly doesn’t help the flow, but there’s not really much can be done about that.
I do like Dr Rupy though. I have his first book and have cooked quite a few of his recipes and really liked them. He also does a weekly email newsletter with recipes and health tips.

Think she needs to stick to Twitter. Not really got the personality for live TV.

😂 how funny that JM thinks she’s on a par with JO. I’ve been loving his shows, have tuned into Daily Kitchen this morning but it’s just not working for me. Shivi is excellent though

Haven't watched Saturday Kitchen since James Martin left as he definitely made the show work better.

Jack Monroe did seem nervous, but then they are new to this. When JO started he had professional camera crew, not a dodgy broadband connection and small kitchen. Plus JO isn't live so gets editing.

Hats off to Jack for trying and hope they get experience from this as I admit it did have teething issues.

It didn't work well, but anyone would have struggled with the format. A bad connection and no proper film crew is always going to look bad, hopefully BBC can work on the technical issues as the time lag meant the show didn't have any flow.

@Stellaris22 Jack came 'back in' and declared she's a woman after all so no need for clunky 3rd person pronouns

Report
Stellaris22 · 14/04/2020 12:30

Clunky? If in doubt I use they/them pronouns. Being offended by this is not ok.

I don't use Twitter so don't follow Monroe.

It's not ok to be offended by they/them pronouns? I would disagree with you, and also disagree that they are not clunky.
In any case, she's a woman and she doesn't deny that fact so you can use the correct pronoun, which is she :)

I guess I'm just confused as to what is offensive about respecting people's preferences. But this is derailing from the thread now.
