Apologies if there's already a thread, but I couldn't see one. Anyone watching? Apparently this is a new series.

I'm waiting for the bench seats to make their inevitable appearance......Grin

Yep.

I have to admit, somewhat grudgingly, that Robert's design is very clever. Though I'm not sure about the big curtain.

A bath in the kitchen?

He had me until he produced the curtained bedroom and the bath in the kitchen!!

I actually quite like Robert's one this time. But I think it's mostly down to the decor and styling.

Just caught the end, will rewatch on catchup. I love this show, but I never ever get Robert's ideas. He seems to be such a one-trick pony with his bench seats and modular plywood everything, and I'd find it depressing to live in a home he designed. It might be quite clever but it's just very different to my personal style. Hopefully Laura wins most of them this season.

That bath is incredibly random

My dd and I have just watched the last 15 minutes of this completely open mouthed! A bath in the lounge, bed behind a curtain! What’s it all about?

I agree, think his designs have become very 'samey' and that along-the-edge modular seating irritates me. It looks so uncomfortable! Low backs mean you couldn't just sink back into.

They are both so predictable. Robert loves his bench seating, split levels and open plan. Laura loves her sky light windows, illusion of space (often without adding any actual space) and bringing the garden indoors.

Robert’s was by far the better design this time around - very quirky and very Brighton. Laura’s didn’t provide the hospitality side of things that they both really wanted.

I do think it was more a house for a couple, than for a couple with an adult son, but I guess their son isn’t going to stay forever.

I liked the idea of the downstairs bedroom being a spare room, but I would have put a (nice and stylish) sofa bed in it so that it could still be an extension of the living space when not in use as a bedroom. I wouldn’t use it as the master bedroom because I think the smells from the kitchen would get old really quickly, and it would feel really small - effectively only living in one room.

Good first episode

Loved this show and glad it's back!

I mostly prefer Laura's designs but I did prefer Robert's in this episode. However, I hated the bedroom with the curtain and would have kept a wall in there, maybe with big sliding doors so they could still have a good visual connection between the rooms, but the possibility of closing it off properly. In the end it just felt like a giant studio flat!

I also disliked the way the couple had styled it, I don't think they did justice to Robert's design - they made it look dark and cluttered and all a bit 70s Grin

Watching on catchup, has the male architect got new teeth?
Oh look bench seating.

HollowTalk · 07/04/2020 21:37

So basically it was a kitchen diner with a bed and a bath in it?

Was there an upstairs or was it a flat? I couldn't figure it out.

Bungalow with crappy loft conversion

Report
AnotherEmma · 07/04/2020 21:38

Would have been a more interesting project and episode if they'd done it all in one go

Report
HollowTalk · 07/04/2020 21:44

It really was a very badly designed house beforehand. Just about everything about it was wrong.

I was only half watching it - wasn't there room for a bedroom upstairs? That would've been the most obvious choice. And that idea of a bath in the living room was just bonkers.

AnotherEmma · 07/04/2020 21:45

They had two double bedrooms and a shower room upstairs, not well designed though.

The colour scheme is interesting. It would make me feel ill to have that green ceiling. I do love the kitchen island though.

Report
AnotherEmma · 07/04/2020 22:10

The green ceiling was awful, hands down the worst bit

Report
HollowTalk · 07/04/2020 22:20

If they had two double bedrooms upstairs, why did they need a double bed in the kitchen?

🤷🏻‍♀️

The concept was a snug/guest room but they liked it so much they decided to use it as their bedroom. Probably because the converted loft rooms aren't great.

I had never seen this show before and I have only one thing to say: Those teeth! They reminded me of my grandma's dentures.

I think it was a ploy to get their son to move out, plus as soon as you opened the front (side) door you'd see whoever was in the bath 🙈
