I love Helen Mirren but dont know if I can stay awake for this.

LadyVictoriaOfCake Sun 02-Sep-07 21:01:58

got and watch 'the butterfly effect' on film 4.

Depends - I am not a fan of the royals, nor of Diana (which is what it centres on) however I did enjoy it....but I am on here instead of watching it again!
So, in short, better than I expected (as an anti-royals, anti-Di person), but not great.

I wasn't mad on it. Yes, Helen Mirren is a lovely actress blah blah but no, I wouldn't bother.

I knew nothing about this film, and tbh considering the recent 10th anniversary of diana's death i think it's sick to be showing it now. What ever were the programme schedulers thinking angry

I thought the title was called *The Queen* NOT *diana's dead lets make money out of her* shock

Exactly LL - it makes me so bloody cross angry

madamez Sun 02-Sep-07 23:21:03

I watched it and was quite interested - but you couldn't half see the wires working... think THIS! believe THIS!. I thought the most likable character was Alastair Campbell though - 'gonna ask HRH is she greased the brakes?'

Twinklemegan Sun 02-Sep-07 23:23:30

I've recorded this to watch another time. But what I don't get is, did the royals give permission for this film to be made? It just seems utterly bizarre - that's why I'm intrigued to see it.

mamama Sun 02-Sep-07 23:27:01

I enjoyed it but I think it was mainly because I was feeling homesick at the time and I found the familiar people & places comforting.

TinyGang Sun 02-Sep-07 23:42:44

Didn't watch it tonight but saw it at the cinema. I thought it was awful. Really cheesy. Helen Mirren did an ok job as the Queen, but the Tony Blair and Queen Mother characters were straight out of Spitting Image imo.

Clary Mon 03-Sep-07 00:05:16

tinygang that's exactly what DH said about the Queen Mum.

<cheesy cockerney voice> "I'm 98 you know" lol

Furball Mon 03-Sep-07 07:35:17

on imdb it says - If you enjoyed this title, our database also recommends: (amongst others) The Omen?????

tiredemma Mon 03-Sep-07 08:30:00

I thought it was shit.

Helen Mirren was much better than the film itself- but The Blairs, Prince Charles, Prince Phillip and Queen Mum all made me cringe.

It was all a bit twee.

Incidently has anyone seen the film about the first Queen Elizabeth?
'Elizabeth I' - with Helen Mirren and Jeremy Irons is a fantastic film- amazing costumes and historically interesting.

Everything that 'The Queen' was not.
