(17 Posts)I agree, in the books she is awful, dirty, poor clothes, slovenly, but a genius.
In the films she is cleaned and tidied up, and a bit less lightening bolt genius.
still love them though, dh can't watch, he can't stand her voice
As a southener I am disappointed to know that I am being lied to by the film makers as I often look at the countryside settings and think how wonderful it all looks in the NE!
But I do find it a bit slow and more often than not nod off in the last quarter of an hour and never know how the plot was resolved!
But you can tell from its 8pm slot that it isn't going to be an in your face violent thriller. And compared to say midsummer murders far and away more involving!
So glad this programme is back on. One of my favourite crime shows!
Oh yes, I remember the house and the reaction of her then sargeant to it, both inside and out. there used to be much more in the plots about her knowing people in the area, and remote parts.
Her Dad was a poacher who dealt in rare birds' eggs. I think he might have been in prison, her Mum died when she was young. Her Dad had died and she had inherited his tip of a house. I'm not sure of her exact career path to senior detective though and how she failed to adopt any social niceties along the way. I don't think that was explained.
eeeeeeeek! Too much information. I used to think of her as just a sensible person concertrating on her work. And her attitudes to small friendly contact in the office as being pure nonsense quite funny.
But maybe not.
I cant remember her back story but not happy ... ?
The books mention quite a lot Joe or other characters in the book looking at her filthy bare feet in sandals it's gross.
I can't bear her voice - she's like a creaky gate. In everything she plays!
Every time I read this thread, there are adverts for boots with heels and beauty products!
Anyone else seeing them?
They are watching us.....
I thought she looked a bit shot in soft focus myself
I just felt cheated that the episode was filmed in North Yorkshire and not anywhere near the 'Northumberland and City Police' patch is.
It's no fun when I can't location spot.
Oh dear. That information makes the make that her young male sargent who always bends down to put her protective shoe covers on, which I thought was rather sweet, now seems like an act of unnecessary dedication to the job (boss).
Goodness me, she sounds delightful!
In the books she has bare legs with eczema and doesn't care about her clothes at all. She also lives in a tip. They made her a bit more appealing for the TV series.
I think she might even have been wearing makeup
Haven't read any of the books (yet) so a bit 🤢 about the filthy feet!
I can't believe I forgot about it. I've been really looking forward to it!
I've always watched the show but just started reading and listening to the books.
She sounds pretty revolting in the books with her filthy feet and stuff 😝
Nice to see a new series of Vera.
But, my goodness, I think she's had a makeover or something She just looks too well-groomed.
The hair was too nicely done, the clothes fitted her too well, and she was wearing boots with a heel !! 😲
Someone has tidied her up - and I wish they hadn't.
