I just watched Pt 1. Not seen part 2 yet. But I had so many questions that aren't yet answered.

How come that room had no window and was open directly onto the sea? Made me wonder if they had hidden her there and knocked the window/wall out to try and get rid of the scent.

All that talk of gangers and travellers was very odd in the BBC interview. There's often a grain of truth in a manipulative lie. Perhaps they sold her to some travellers like the Rooney family who kept slaves for years. She may still be alive. The woman, Avril, was adamant that she is.

Watching episode 2 just now- it's just so desperately sad.

What a strange couple, Avril's blank expression when asked what would she say to Margaret was damning.

Is episode 2 on the iPlayer now?

I thought it was a chilling programme and very well made.

On BBC Scotland artisan one of the things that really got me and l don't know why was the buzzcut haircut they gave her.

I watched the first one on BBC Scotland last night-it’s so sad how someone can go unmissed for all those years. That interview was so strange too.

@TitianaTitsling. And when her schoolmates said, he’s trying to make her like him. So odd.

I listened to a podcast about this a few weeks ago.
It's an awful story.

Oh, it made my heart ache.

That the social workers failed her, that her father left her in the care of such horrible people (he can't have suspected they's do this) makes my heart ache for the poor lovely girl.

It took them 17 years to catch up on her, and in the meantime theyd had £180,000 of benefits in her name?! Horrendous {sad]

It was an awful story, millie I also wondered if he was trying to hide evidence by leaving the room exposed to the elements like that. She was supposed to have been cared for by them for years but his description of her was so chilling he said short fat and dirty, how horrible that was. What an evil couple, wonder what people in the small village really thought of them.

Thought the music choice was odd at the beginning of the programme, who would pick that tune for a programme about such a sad subject?

I commented on that to Dh.
Most people describing people that are close to them, as she should have been in their care, would have said something along the lines of " she's chatty and funny' ' she likes listening to pop music' or something along those lines. They woudnt necessarily, I think, gone straight into a physical description, especially one using words with a negative tone.

I think the choice of music fitted, in that this original version implied that there were secrets which no-one would ever know (except the two carers of course). It wasn’t always the comedy song performed by Windsor Davies and Don Estelle. However what we saw was pretty damning and chilling. How was it that no-one in the nearby village missed seeing her in nearly twenty-odd years?

Of course, I remember now.

Watched the second part last night

Desperately sad.

I loved the way Ian McSporran dealt with the old bastard in court.

Yes but I think most people certainly my age group think of the comedy version, my husband said I thought it was an advert for something when the music was on!
Anyhoo will watch second part tonight.

Did you see the part where the policeman fond the word HELP written on the wall, next to a drawing of a girl? Chilling.

I'm going to watch the second part now.

When he said 'short, fat and dirty' I wished Louis Theroux had been interviewing them. he;d not have let that go. He'd have mock-innocently picked up on 'dirty' and let them talk themselves into a corner then say, 'But you're her carers. It's your job to keep her clean.' I thought the interviewer from the BBC was very feeble and unimaginative. She could have got a lot more out of them if she'd been investigative.

I do wonder if she is alive, though. Avril seemed so adamant. I have a horrible feeling they sold her as a slave agricultural worker.

You couldn't make this up. If a writer called a Scottish barrister 'McSporran' they'd be told to try harder.

No she’s not alive, they killed her without a shadow of a doubt. I thought the English teacher was brilliant on the second programme.
I loved when the defence lawyer for Avril said you are only speculating and she mouthed ... and so are you! Brilliant!
They thought she wouldn’t remember poor Margaret but she did , not only that she was spot on with her assessment of whether Margaret could have written that letter. I couldn’t get over Avril, I don’t think her expression altered not even when given a life sentence , cold and calculating both of them .

Most of the village probably didn't even know she was supposed to be living there. I think she had been an occasional visitor with her dad etc previously and who knows what lies they'd told. Avril's best friend whom she saw weekly had no idea that Margaret even existed and apparently lived with them.
