I love it and season three is on Amazon prime now.
But Mandy Moore"s character really irritates me sometimes! Like she's so entitled or something. Can't put my finger on it

I can’t remember if I’ve seen Season 3 or not Hmm

It's just been released so I guess you haven't. I was surprised when I heard it was season three as I was sure I'd seen more than that. But no

I’m just glad that season 3 is finally available to watch. It was made in 2016 and we’re only just getting to see it now Angry
I’m loving it and having to force myself to stop at watching only one episode a night to make it last as long as possible. I’m not finding Mandy Moore annoying- all the Vietnam flashbacks are slightly grinding - I just want more Randall!!

@Justfivemoreminutesplease oh I wanted to savour it but im on episode 15!
There's just something breathy and head tilty about Rebecca. Not sure.

I bloody cry at every episode!

Didn't realise it was filmed in 2016 why has it taken so long?!

I also find Rebecca a little annoying. She is suffocating I think.

Ooh so happy I found this thread, I love This is Us.
Yes it's been a long wait and I too am trying not to binge but it's hard. Apparently C4 or E4 axed it after S2 as it wasn't popular with UK audiences.
Not minding the Vietnam storyline but I do find it harder when they devote an entire episode to one character, even the ones I like, like Beth.

We watched series 2 and series 3 of This is Us over the festive season.
It is wonderful, the characters are so real to me that I have been wondering what is happening to them since I last saw them!

I thought Kevin’s story arc was great, but I think I love Randall best of all.
Re Rebecca, I think her prothetics aren’t brilliant and the clothes she wears as an older woman don’t seem to be what her character would wear.

One of my favourite programmes ever

Randall is a right shithead in one episode this series @IamEarthymama You will be appalled!

*@kitkat - are you on s4?

Report
hudyerwheesht · 09/01/2020 19:38

Ahh wait never mind, I've just googled - so S4 is on in the US right now but in the UK (where I am) S3 has only just dropped on Amazon.
I'm going to have to get off this thread in case of spoilers (already shocked and appalled at the very idea of Randall being a shithead!)
Shame as I don't know anyone else who watches it - as per my previous post the UK audience has apparently not taken to it and I read an article somewhere claiming it was it because it was too sentimental. I disagree - obviously - and if ever did veer too much towards sentimentality it's balanced out nicely with good drama and humour. But that's just my opinion, for what it's worth.I
I lost my mum at the same age as the big 3 lost Jack and can relate so much with a lot of the issues they have as adults.

Just finished it. Iffy there are some really good episodes. And I think they do dedicate an episode to each character in this season...think they have in each one? But I've enjoyed them all.

Yes I agree Rebecca is suffocating @WingBingo and the clothes @IamEarthymama but theres just something else like she does a delay before talking or makes a facial movement for the other person to talk and it just irritates me. Something about the lips. I prefer her as young Rebecca with Jack and think she annoys me more in the current day time.

I really like Beth, Randall, Kevin and jack (yum...love him actually). Quite like Kate too. I hated deja when she was introduced but she is great in this series.

@hudyerwheesht I know! I don't know anyone else who watches it either but it's sooo good. One friend tried it and said too slow..think she gave it a whole five minutes Hmm
Sorry about your mum. I do think they've covered so many issues which are done well they are so relatable and moving.

I laughed at your username..assume youre in Scotland? Me too!

I've just watched season 3. I got DH to download it. I love everything about it. So many TV progs are all about murder, rape, grief porn. I really appreciate the ponderous nature of This Is Us. Looking in on a family and what has happened to each person to bring them to that point. I even like seeing the same incident twice from different perspectives.

Lots of character development this season. No one is completely the hero and no one is completely the villain. It's clever. The one tricky part for me now is whether the triplets at 38 is "present day" and the brief scenes of them older is "future", or is it all the past...

DH will find season 4 online for me this weekend. I won't spoil for anyone who hasn't seen season 3 yet.

@Horehound yes I'm Scottish (though sadly not in Scotland - where are you from?)

Couldn't agree more with the pp's - I think the characters are really well fleshed out and I like that we're seeing their flaws and mistakes too. I also love seeing the same story from different characters ' perspectives and the content IS a bit of a relief after all the intense, gritty drama (even though I like that too) - I like when really good tv makes me laugh, makes me cry, makes me think.

I'm confused about the future flashes too though, though it will no doubt become clear - I like those little twist reveals they put in - it's what hooked me in to the first episode.

Does anyone know if Miguel the only man Rebecca ends up with after Jack? There was a conversation in this season when he said something like "after your Dad died and your mum remarried" but he didn't sound like he was referring to himself and I wondered about it at the time but then got distracted and forgot to go back and check what he actually said and now I can't because I can't remember which episode it was.

Just to clarify, I meant "intense, gritty drama" of other tv shows - although TIU (I'm officially abbreviating) can do intense and dramatic plenty when needs be.

Bloody love this is us and on the penultimate episode of season 3. So sad that I'll have to wait for season 4 Sad

Really enjoying this season though and have loved getting to know Jack a bit better. Think the flashbacks to other key characters has been great, too, and stopped it being all about the big 3.

Also agree with PP about it being something a bit different to the norm... not as blood thirsty or sex-y as the usual stuff!

I'm just gonna wait for it to come out on Amazon but it will be tough.
I'm glad everyone is liking it as much as me. I try to tell as many folk about it as I can but no one seems interested much. Confused

@hudyerwheesht I'm from Montrose although don't live there now but still north East coast. What about you? Well, it's pretty cold and miserable right now so you're not missing too much. We had crazy winds here last two days.

@horehound - originally from the borders (south east of Edinburgh) but lived in England now for over 20 years (DH is English) - I don't get back as often as I'd like so I do get really homesick, rubbish weather aside.

I think it might be a while before Amazon has S4, so far it has been quite far behind the US screening and S4 hasn't even finished there yet. I don't know about downloading, I usually just wait until I can stream it.
I've managed to hold off the last few episodes of S3 - I went through through them fast at the start as it was the xmas hols and I was bed-bound with a bad cold so I binged hard.

Did anyone see my question re Miguel and Rebecca?

I have to say I didn't pick up on the remarried thing. I'll see if I get a minute and go back. Do you know anything else about the episode that might help me figure out which one it was?

Well I've only watched up to episode 14 so it would have to be one of those, and not one of the character-focused ones but that doesn't help much. I do remember it was shortly before that other Dad tried to ask Rebecca out in the shop where she was buying a video camera because I thought, oh, is this the guy she is going to marry before Miguel?
I probably just didn't hear him properly and/or I'm massively overthinking.

I finished S3 on Amazon over the Christmas break and can’t believe it was from 2016- I did struggle with a few episodes, a bit overplaying the story same kind of scenarios cropping up, plus didn’t feel the eps devoted to anyone other than the 3 were weighty enough? Hope S4 is available soon.
Not a spoiler, but the flash forward at the end was interesting as to who was by the bedside...
