Wistling - new scandi thriller BB4 saturdays double episodes

I was looking foward to this as Christmas tv has been really pathetic.

But am beginning to think scandi thrillers are losing any originality. The plot line is such an old one, slightly rehased, but just allowing the series to show endless shots of trapped terrified young women who are nearly naked. ()

And obviously hoping to appeal to US audiences by conveniently having to accept the FBI getting involved.

Did anyone else watch, and if so what did you think?

(
I am aware that this is a crime that is far more frequent than news reporting suggests. Young women kidnapped and brutalised, sometimes murdered, sometimes held captive for year. But in a tv series it seems to just be the opportunity for pornified filming.)

I enjoyed it and am looking forward to next week's episodes. I think the explanation for the naked terrified girl is going to be related to going cold turkey for drugs, and not the 'obvious' explanation, given who the pointers to the captor (trying not to give spoilers).

'given the pointers to the captor'. Wish there was an edit button!

hmmmmmmmmmm ... !! Confused

I do think sometimes it is my lack of imagination that means I dont get everything I could out of tv programmes. Blush

Watched the first 2 episodes last night, and am suspending judgment for the mo. Agree that some elements seem familiar from other series - but also think Panic may be right. So, happy to sit on the fence for the time being!

No spoilers, please.
I am appreciating it so far, although am also fed up with young women being captured and so on. On the other hand the FBI cop is nobody's victim.

As far as I know as it is BBC4 they will only make episodes available after broadcast.

So as someone who easily loses the plot would hope this thread would be for an episode by episode discussion. ie watching and discussing in real time.

The thread I started on Traces never really took off as we kept waiting for people to catch up.

So hope others agree that we can post after each episode broadcast. Smile

I enjoyed it but agree they are getting a bit formulaic. At least the involvement of the FBI means they can give the subtitles a rest now and then!

Does anyone else think that every time Line tracks down an old friend of the corpse in the armchair that it's going to turn out to be the serial killer doing a 'caveman'?

It is a bit generic in some ways, but I quite like the culture clash stuff between the Americans and Norwegians. I think the acting is good too (I love Carrie-Ann Moss). And the aerial shots of cross-country skiing in the credits are just beautiful. I'm sticking with it for now.

I think there are either 8 or even 10 episodes. And in that slot on BBC4 they always broadcast 2 episodes together.

Yes I enjoy the overhead shots, it gives such a different perspective. But have noticed in any number of recent thrillers that part of the opening sequence is moving shot over trees. Almost a cliche now.

Christmas tv has been such rubbish, that I almost with it was available to stream.

I'll be watching it weekly! Thanks for starting the thread. Definitely sick of young women being trapped and tortured. But overall I liked the characters, the FBI clash and the scenery so will definitely be sticking with it!

Also watching. Reserving judgment for now, as Dh and I have just been shouting at the screen over the latest ridiculous twist Hmm

Still watching but I agree it's formulaic and box-ticking. Bloody Line is Jack's daughter from 24 all over again. It was obvious she was going to jeopardise the investigation and become a victim.
I felt sorry for Thomas, although mutton ribs didn't really call me.

I did feel disappinted about Line getting snatched - that was so predictable. She has become entangled in all aspects of the case. I'm enjoying the fbi presence, the scenery and the Wisting family dynamics.

I agree with PPs about it becoming formulaic and Line's abduction was so predictable; and she's so irritating!

However, I'm going to keep watching because there's nothing else on TV worth giving any time to at the moment!! I think that Godwin is the artist who she went to visit very early on (whose painting was in Viggo's house) and Viggo had confided in Old whatisname that something was weird, so now he is terrified of being murdered too. Glad I was right about the girl in the basement being Hammer's daughter withdrawing from drugs and it not being another tortured girl being snatched......

I'm sure that girl having reported being stalked is going to be relevant, but why didn't the person who dropped her off, drive her to the door - it was a bit bonkers that she then had to run home what seemed like a considerable distance.

Seen 1 now on 2

Will hopefully watch 3&4 during the week qbs be in sync :)

I do love scandi drama

Df hates them as struggles to read subtitles and hates hearing their language but can’t watch in silence 🙄

Line very annoying. Guessed as soon as they profiled the serial killer's type that she would be a victim-in-waiting.

Am guessing that the artist is the 'caveman' if only because he was really the only tall, slim guy she met up with who had been one of Viggo's contemporaries.

That last well reveal scene was just awful.
