It's not quite time to don your woolly jumpers or stoke up your log fires for the winter - still some tennis to be played this season!

An exciting, mathematically challenging WTFs continues, new Davis Cup soon, etc...

magimedi Thu 14-Nov-19 10:20:29

I've finished off your old thread, Private.

It's a real treat to have tennis in the afternoons at this time of year. Especially as all the players are good & there are no weather bothers.

magimedi Thu 14-Nov-19 10:23:52

My tennis mad neighbours are off to Madrid next week to see the Davis Cup.

Looks as if it's only on Eurosport & not the BBC. Damn.

I long for all TV to be pay per hour.

kazzaD66 Thu 14-Nov-19 10:28:33

Re the butterfly fancier private That will teach you to go in with an open mind. I stopped that a long time ago. Just face it - he's an annoying, irritating prat grin

Thanks for the new thread btw smile

I see that Andy will meet Dimitrov in the first round of the ATP Cup in Sydney in January. It will make a change for Grigor to play someone other than Stan grin
Andy was meant to play Fed but he's now pulled out because he's scared he'd lose to a resurgent Murray grin

kazzaD66 Thu 14-Nov-19 10:31:47

Ooh, jealous of your neighbours magi
Madrid, warm sun, tapas Rioja, tennis. What's not to love smile

magimedi Thu 14-Nov-19 10:46:30

If you look at the weather for Madrid it's wet & a max of about (c!!

The rest of it will be as you described!!!

magimedi Thu 14-Nov-19 11:04:05

9C not (C!!

JaneJeffer Thu 14-Nov-19 12:05:49

It's not quite time to don your woolly jumpers or stoke up your log fires for the winter
Unless you live where I do. It's fecking freezing!

Thanks for new thread Private

PrivateSpidey Thu 14-Nov-19 12:18:27

Jane grin I know, it is here as well. I've just put the heating back on and the garden is looking a bit on the flooded side shock

I wouldn't mind being in Madrid, even if it is only 9C!

I like your pay per hour TV idea magi. But I think we would need a discount for the time taken up by AC grin

Raahh if you're reading, hope you're doing ok.

PrivateSpidey Thu 14-Nov-19 12:21:08

Thanks for finishing off the old thread magi bear

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 13:21:52

Yay! new thread!

After the excitement of the Rafa match, I was feeling a bit rubbish, and fell asleep. Went to bed at 5.30- and basically didn't get up (except to move downstairs later when Dh woke me up with his snoring).

I don't feel too clever today, but Kevin and Keith are not causing too many problems, just a dull ache.

I will probably miss this afternoon, parents evenings and stuff, but tonight should be good (although I don't want either to wingrin)

PrivateSpidey Thu 14-Nov-19 13:35:34

grin they should be able to make it a draw.

I'd prefer Fed to win (despite the love-in).

Glad you're not doing too badly Raahh. Hopefully Keith and Kevin will keep a low profile from now on!

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 13:59:02

Keith and Kevin are keeping thing to a dull roar today. But I just feel exhausted.

I want Fed to beat Djok, but only so Rafa keeps his number 1 spot.

I don't know how the groups will pan out- but I'd rather Rafa didn't play Fed in the semi. Although Thiem has been playing so well.

But I'm getting ahead of myself, since , Rafa has to win his next match first!

Fizzywinegum Thu 14-Nov-19 14:07:54

I’ve had enough of AC already grin

I want Fed to win tonight - DH was asking me why everyone hated Djok the other night - he answered his own question after watching Djok for a few minutes!

Fizzywinegum Thu 14-Nov-19 14:13:56

Spidey Sue just said almost word for word what you said earlier about the possible permutations (are you her researcher?) AC didn’t have a clue grin

PrivateSpidey Thu 14-Nov-19 14:27:45

grin Fizzy I'd love that!! They're talking about Thiem as though he's only just arrived on the scene confused

Fizzywinegum Thu 14-Nov-19 14:33:13

I know AC said that no-ones ever heard of Thiem confused! Maybe some tennis fans have heard of him seeing as he was a French Open finalist! As my DM once said about AC - she wouldn’t pay him out in washers (he’s hopeless)

JaneJeffer Thu 14-Nov-19 14:39:34

I missed all the who is Thiem chat thankfully.

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 14:57:58

Who is Thiem?

Honestly. AC should stick to butterflies and beards.

JaneJeffer Thu 14-Nov-19 15:48:41

Playing bad at the net because his dad taught him grin

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 15:49:39

I just got in, and saw that Matteo won.

What was wrong with Dom? Sue- Voice of Doom said he wasn't feeling his best.

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 15:50:38

They aren't going to replay the same Murray interview again are they??
You can tell it's the Beeb.

JaneJeffer Thu 14-Nov-19 15:52:34

I don't know whether Domi was just saving his energy!

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 15:54:08

Jane maybe he was- it was a 'dead' rubber as far as was concerned, although he could have gained ranking points from it.

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 15:54:58

He's been talking to Russell a lot.

It's like Groundhog day.

JaneJeffer Thu 14-Nov-19 15:55:52

He was right to if he has a bad cold.

Andy looks so happy when he talks about his children.

kazzaD66 Thu 14-Nov-19 15:59:08

Crikey, just seen the result. I wasn't expecting that! Did Dom not turn up or did Berrettini play with gay abandon, having nothing to lose confused

I haven't seen any Murray interviews as yet. Any talk of babies and soft play areas? grin

Fizzywinegum Thu 14-Nov-19 16:00:49

I think Thiem’s got a bit of a cold - Tim mentioned it a few times - I think I’ve caught it - feeling a bit rubbish - the weather here is awful and I’ve got to go out in a minute. It’s very cold, windy and rainy. Madrid sounds like a much better prospect - if only for the tapas and wine!

This is the first time I’ve seen the Andy Murray interview grin

kazzaD66 Thu 14-Nov-19 16:02:04

X post Jane re Andy

Who's got a bad cold?

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 16:02:56

Fizzy don't worry, if they've got any down time tomorrow, you will see it again.

It's like all the Konta match repeats at RG grin.

Fizzywinegum Thu 14-Nov-19 16:03:14

I thought Andy looked quite handsome in that interview (maybe I’m really ill grin) it was nice to hear him talking about his children

kazzaD66 Thu 14-Nov-19 16:03:36

Now x post with fizzy grin

Obviously, Dom has a bad cold!

JaneJeffer Thu 14-Nov-19 16:03:36

Those cameras they used for the interview pick up every little detail. I would be hiding in my hoodie if they pointed it at me!

JaneJeffer Thu 14-Nov-19 16:05:16

Berrettini was also feeling unwell but he didn't say what ails him.

JaneJeffer Thu 14-Nov-19 16:08:41

I don't agree with this man!

Fizzywinegum Thu 14-Nov-19 16:11:49

Which man Jane? Chris Kermode?

JaneJeffer Thu 14-Nov-19 16:12:49

Yes. AC needs to watch his words!

JaneJeffer Thu 14-Nov-19 16:14:11

I don't like no ad tennis and if young people don't have the attention span to watch well tough!

Fizzywinegum Thu 14-Nov-19 16:15:27

Sue told Andrew off then grin. He blamed Djok for the whole Chris Kermode thing.

JaneJeffer Thu 14-Nov-19 16:16:09

grin he better watch his back

PrivateSpidey Thu 14-Nov-19 16:17:33

Yes the first set was close wasn't it - not sure if Dom was saving himself a bit especially if he has a cold or whatever it is, but Berrettini played well.

PrivateSpidey Thu 14-Nov-19 16:26:23

Argh sorry x-post with everyone!! I was a page behind.

Andy has nice green eyes Fizzy and a nice jawline. IMO grin

magimedi Thu 14-Nov-19 16:53:13

I did like hearing AC speak out about Chris Kermode. Don't think AC is a fan of Djock.

Not often I say it, but GO Roger!

JaneJeffer Thu 14-Nov-19 16:57:30

It made me laugh when Sue said you're not supposed to talk about what happens in the meetings and AC said said "well rumour has it then". Tim was looking a bit worried grin

PrivateSpidey Thu 14-Nov-19 17:02:12

grin I missed that bit

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 17:17:56

magi I'm the same. It really is only for the numbers- I dislike them both equally really, for different reasons. grin

kazzaD66 Thu 14-Nov-19 17:36:45

I saw the Chris Kermode interview. He was very careful not to mention Cock, esp when Sue asked him if he still got on with ALL the players hmm

AC was clearly sticking up for CK and obviously doesn't think too highly of Djok
the players council in the whole episode. It's about the only time I've heard him speak (sort of) sense. (Can you tell it pains me to say this grin)

And yes, he did get a telling off from the headmistress, whilst Tim was obviously wishing he was building a car park somewhere, anywhere....just not in that studio at that time grin

PrivateSpidey Thu 14-Nov-19 18:19:55

kazza grin I can tell you were posting that through gritted teeth. I

PrivateSpidey Thu 14-Nov-19 18:21:21

Sorry posted too soon.

That does sound sensible from AC though. He might as well say what he thinks.

Fizzywinegum Thu 14-Nov-19 18:39:09

It was probably the most sensible thing I’ve heard AC say tbh. Corporate Tim and Sue did look a bit uncomfortable though smile

PrivateSpidey Thu 14-Nov-19 20:03:52

Aw Goran.

He just said everyone is going to be for Roger and Djok just has to put it out of his mind. I feel a bit sorry for Djok now stop me

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 20:05:18

Oi, Spidey STOP.

It's true though, which is a worry, as it might rile him up a bit . And I don't want him to win.

Or Fed.

Can Goran win?

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 20:07:10

Oh goody, it's Mo. I hope I hope he enjoys himseld as much as he did yesterday. grin

KJT looked like she couldn't wait to get away grin.

Fizzywinegum Thu 14-Nov-19 20:11:22

Yes I’d quite like Goran to win Raahh grin

PrivateSpidey Thu 14-Nov-19 20:12:28

grin I know Raahh! It was Goran's fault.

Yes that's a good idea - perhaps he could play Tim instead?

JaneJeffer Thu 14-Nov-19 20:13:47

Now Private

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 20:14:32

Goran V Tim- I'm sure that was a Children in Need sketch with Miranda .

She snogged Goran at the end envy.

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 20:15:29

Fizzywinegum Thu 14-Nov-19 20:16:02

I think Djok has had a haircut - I remember years ago a Wimbledon hairdresser was interviewed and she said that Novak’s hair was the hardest to cut (she’s probably not employed anymore for being so indiscreet!)

PrivateSpidey Thu 14-Nov-19 20:16:48

grin Jane

PrivateSpidey Thu 14-Nov-19 20:18:37

I remember that children in need sketch - wasn't Miranda supposed to be Goran?! grin

I remember her getting "knocked out" and Tim going "Are you ok Goran?!"

I'm going to look that up later.

JaneJeffer Thu 14-Nov-19 20:22:28

That's strange Fizzy

Fizzywinegum Thu 14-Nov-19 20:25:10

It is a bit Jane I always think about it when I see Novak’s hair - it is a bit Lego-ish - maybe I should just concentrate on the tennis.

Roger is doing well.

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 20:26:03

I remember it being very funny.

I am in a minority on MN ( in most things) as I quite like Miranda.grin.

PrivateSpidey Thu 14-Nov-19 20:26:30

Lego-ish grin

PrivateSpidey Thu 14-Nov-19 20:27:54

Omg I love Miranda! It's one of my favourite programmes ever. Didn't realise it was frowned upon on here!

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 20:28:14

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 20:29:46

Private I love her , but in sitcoms/comedians people on her don't like , she seems very marmite.

Like 'Love Actually'. I like that too blush

PrivateSpidey Thu 14-Nov-19 20:29:52

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 20:31:22

Fizzywinegum Thu 14-Nov-19 20:31:40

I like Miranda but Love Actually noooo! DH loves it though.

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 20:32:50

What happened to Djoks terrible germy man flu? After he seemed to infect everyone else the other week?

Did he pass germs on to Dom?

JaneJeffer Thu 14-Nov-19 20:34:12

Love Actually is awful.

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 20:36:40

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 20:38:01

And Fed fires one right back.

I'm really not as involved in this match as Ihave been in some others, I just really want Djok to lose- but for Fed to be too tired to play the semi.

Fizzywinegum Thu 14-Nov-19 20:38:34

I’m with you there Jane - I think DH pretends to like it just to annoy me grin

JaneJeffer Thu 14-Nov-19 20:41:45

Tell him you fancy Andrew Lincoln (because who doesn't) and he might change his tune grin

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 20:43:47

I must admit, I prefer Andrew Lincoln more rough and ready in the Walking Dead , than Love Actually.

I hate Keira Knightly .

There's a lot I get annoyed about, but overall, I still have to watch the film every Christmas.grin.

(I mean, I watch the 24 hour Christmas/Hallmark channel. I have no shame).

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 20:45:07

It shows none of us are that enthused by this match, that we aren't even commenting on how boring Henman is being. Just rderailing our own thread with film chat. A we do.

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 20:45:38

Fizzywinegum Thu 14-Nov-19 20:46:02

My secret Christmas film is The Holiday which I admit is crap but I want to live in Kate Winslet’s cottage smile

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 20:47:51

Embrace the crap Christmas films. It's the only way. I love loads of the Hallmark ones. grin.

I do like proper ones too- but I save those (although I've already watched Elf and Arthur Christmasgrin).

PrivateSpidey Thu 14-Nov-19 20:48:32

I don't fancy Andrew Lincoln shock

The best Christmas film for festive hotness is The Bishop's Wife with Cary Grant and David Niven grin

PrivateSpidey Thu 14-Nov-19 20:49:16

Is there tennis on btw?!

JaneJeffer Thu 14-Nov-19 20:51:16

Now that's where I disagree with MN I like Keira Knightly and I love Atonement and the book as well!

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 20:51:25

Spidey I love all the old ones.

I can't get my family to watch them with me. sad

PrivateSpidey Thu 14-Nov-19 20:52:20

I rest my case!

I love Atonement as well Jane

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 20:53:35

I think there is tennis on.

Ooh look, Fed won the first set.

And from the crowd's reaction he is still doing well.

You don't even need to look up.

PrivateSpidey Thu 14-Nov-19 20:53:58

Fizzy The Holiday is in the so bad it's good category for me grin

I agree about the cottage as well - it's lovely!

PrivateSpidey Thu 14-Nov-19 20:55:09

You don't even need to look up.
I may have glanced up once or twice.

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 20:55:34

The remake of The Bishop's Wife (the Bishop's wife) was not good. Even if Denzel Washington was in it.

JaneJeffer Thu 14-Nov-19 20:55:59

As I can't watch tennis I'm watching a programme about Sainsbury's. Don't ask me why. We don't even have Sainsbury's in Ireland.

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 20:56:03

The preacher's wife! that should have been.

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 20:58:59

It is so funny, the difference in crowd noise.

It was even evident in the Thiem match, which got him really riled. I suppose he expects it when playing Fed, or Rafa, but was not impressed to be the least popular when playing Thiem (because no-one has heard of him, have they? grin

Fizzywinegum Thu 14-Nov-19 20:59:04

I think we all might as well be watching a programme about Sainsbury’s Jane grin

PrivateSpidey Thu 14-Nov-19 21:00:51

Jane you're not missing much. Well you could be grin - I wouldn't know tbh as I'm not really watching.

We have Sainsbury's right by school so I'm never out of there - I don't even like it much hmm

Raahh it had never occurred to me The Preacher's Wife was a remake shock - I've never seen it tbh but I know of it, if you know what I mean. Yes Denzel is fine and all but why mess with perfection?!

Or should that be peRFection wink

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 21:01:15

Jane that is funnygrin!

I like Sainsbury's for some things, the kids clothes are good. Can't afford to do my weekly food shop their, but our local one has a lovely cafe, which is very reasonable.

I spent more time in it, when I worked in the JL attached.

Don't let him back in the match, Fed, we need you to win.

For Rafa's sake!

PrivateSpidey Thu 14-Nov-19 21:02:44

Yes that absolute nobody Dominic Thiem! Who's only been in the top 10 for 4 years and 2 GS finals - but who's actually heard of him?!? hmm

Raahh Thu 14-Nov-19 21:03:26

Spidey grin

I hope Fed hasn't had t-shirts printed. If he wins this year , will it be 7 times. They have barely mentioned it wink

Now they are making excuses for Djok, and saying his elbow is playing up.

PrivateSpidey Thu 14-Nov-19 21:04:34

Raahh yes the clothes are good - the one by us is just a "local" one though so it doesn't have them.
