Who’s in it?

Sam West as Siegfried!

That makes me want to watch tbh.

Guy that was Leslie in The Durrells as Tristan.

Doesn't strike me as good looking enough.

Really, really hope this isn’t crap. Used to love it back in the day.

Yeah, that lad who is playing Tristan is not good looking enough. I always imagined Tristan to look more like a young Rob Patterson /Daniel Radcliffe I suppose. But sexy

Sam West could be good

Ooh I’m excited about this! Love the books and loved the television series!

I'm just watching some of the old ones on youtube!

Yes, they are filming in Grassington this week. Photos I have seen look great, all the shop fronts made to look like 1930s/40s. I saw Callum Woodhouse who is playing Tristan I think, on my way home a couple of weeks ago and wondered what he was doing in this part of the world. All has become clear now!!

I'll give it a go. Absolutely loved this back in the day. As well as the books.

I like Sam West, I think he's a good actor. It might be good... But why mess with perfection?! I can't imagine anyone being better than the original trio of Timothy, Hardy and Davison tbh - but then I admit I'm a total luddite.

I suppose they'll even have a different theme tune? Shock

I do hope they don't make a hash of this! If there's a different theme tune I will personally riot in the streets.

Here they are - L to R - Tristan, James and Siegfried.

Sorry, but that is NOT how I imagine Tristan to look!

Siegfried is very young!! I can get on board with James though.

managedmis · 18/10/2019 14:50

I dunno, I imagine 'james' to look more wholesome somehow? Although he's very nice looking

I think the one playing Tristan should be playing James (and vice versa)

Report
diddl · 18/10/2019 16:08

Sam West is 53-the same age as Robert Hardy was when he first played Siegfried!

That's a flattering pic of the guy playing James!

Report
spiderlight · 18/10/2019 16:12

Blimey - he doesn't look 53!!

I don't think I'd grasped that the original series ran 78-80 and was then revived in 88 for four more series, but a lot of that was without Peter Davison. There are re-runs of the revival on a channel I came across by chance a week or two ago - UK Drama? By that stage Lynda Bellingham was playing Helen.

Anyway! Christopher Timothy was in his late 30s when they started filming. Robert Hardy was born in 1925 and Peter Davison in 1951, so it does strain credulity that they were supposed to be brothers. I don't remember thinking that at the time. Wikipedia tells me that the real life characters were all pretty close in age:

Siegfried (Donald Sinclair) born 1911
Tristan (Brian Sinclair) born 1915
James (Alf Wight) born 1916

I'm also very sorry to learn that Donald Sinclair committed suicide two weeks after his wife died. Alf had died not long before. How sad.

Sam West is lovely on Twitter. His parents are well up in their 80s so I suppose it makes sense that he is as old as that.

Robert Hardy looked a much older 53 than Sam West does, don't you think.

'Darrowby 385'

'Wet lung, vitnery'

I can still hear the theme tune Grin

"Robert Hardy looked a much older 53 than Sam West does, don't you think."

Maybe, although 53 30yrs ago maybe was different?

Also when SW is in character he might look older?

Idk, I'm the same age now as my MIL was when I first met her 25yrs ago, I whilst I'm not as grey as her, which is just the luck of the draw, she had very short, unflattering layered hair & would wear a long tweed skirt, twin set & flat shoes.

All quite aging, but perhaps not that unusual.

I tend to be in jeans & chelsea boots.

Mind you, in 25yrs I will probably look very old for mid 50s!
