Schuman's 2nd Symphony in C major.

Very pleasant to MN with.

Slubberdegullion Mon 06-Aug-07 21:26:05

Well that 2nd movement was stirring stuff wasn't it?

<<suspects this may be another thread where she is mostly talking to herself>>

Slubberdegullion Mon 06-Aug-07 21:36:49

Very tender 3rd movement.

You lot are really missing out you know. Very underrated is old Schuman.

Slubberdegullion Mon 06-Aug-07 21:43:40

Oh very good.

<<polite applause>>

Slubberdegullion Mon 06-Aug-07 21:44:56

Oh I do love these threads where people talk to themselves, Sdg (I've done it meself a few times!)

Do they do listen again on 4?

WendyWeber Mon 06-Aug-07 21:47:55

Ohhh - it's telly, isn't it? Bum.

MrsJohnCusack Mon 06-Aug-07 21:53:55

quite appropriate really given Schumann's multiple personalities

harpsichordcarrier Mon 06-Aug-07 21:59:25

I was talking to myself on another proms thread the other day.
sorry I missed the Schumann, prob repeated.
did you see the Haydn Seasons, I thought it was a bit dull

Bink Mon 06-Aug-07 22:00:09

oh poo I missed that.
I have a crush, unashamedly, on Schumann just at the moment, since the revelation of Kreisleriana at the Wigmore in May (am coming to this stuff late in life) & then another piano piece & then some very breath-taking lieder.

Any more later in season??

Slubberdegullion Tue 07-Aug-07 08:18:21

not sure bink.

Tonight it is:

Suzy Klein presents Britten's Sinfonia da Requiem and Mahler's 10th Symphony, left unfinished at his death, but completed by Derek Cooke, performed by the BBC Philharmonic conducted by Gianandrea Noseda.
Starts at 7.30.

Will prob be listening to that too. I love Britten.

VictorVictoria Tue 07-Aug-07 08:34:52

Ahem

It starts tonight at 7pm. I know this because I am going and it says so on the tickets.........

Slubberdegullion Tue 07-Aug-07 08:40:37

Think that is the RL concert. The bbc4 programme starts at 7.30 (so the website says).

VictorVictoria Tue 07-Aug-07 08:41:59

You are almost certainly right. sorry..........

Slubberdegullion Tue 07-Aug-07 08:53:17

. Wish I was going to the concert , have great time.

Bonaventura Tue 07-Aug-07 09:30:16

I wish I could remember the words Kingsley Amis put to the main theme in the last movement of Schumann's fourth symphony. It was something like this:

I'm furiously crossing my eyes
And angrily gnashing my teeth...

Forgotten the rest. Any suggestions?

Slubberdegullion Tue 07-Aug-07 09:32:37

Am thinking this thread should have been put in Culture Vultures

Bonaventura I have no idea, sorry!
