I saw it last night and it looks awesome! I love that Seven of Nine seems so natural, and I’ve read that Troi and Riker are in it too...can’t wait!

Where did you see the trailer?

Report
tribpot · 21/07/2019 18:36

Patrick Stewart tweeted it here.

I thought this was a movie but even better, a telly series. Yay.

Unbelievably excited and I shouted in excitement when I saw seven of nine. The plot looks super intriguing and I figured there's no way Patrick Stewart would agree to do it if it wasn't going to be good.

Does anyone know what channel or service it will be aired on? I can't wait.

Very excited, but a bit wary, I was ridiculously excited for discovery as well but don't like that. I don't like the tone of it or the messing around with canon, meh, luckily the Orville is awesome and much more like Star Trek should be.

I think they have made Picard look a bit more like Discovery than Next gen in style (why don't space ships have adequate lighting anymore???) Still gonna watch though, Jean-Luc is worth it Grin

Then your tribpot for the link.

I was completely unaware that this was even being made! I too am extremely excited for this!

Any news on which channel or streaming service this will air on?

Phew, I'm back and pleased to see I'm not alone.

Yes, Amazon will have it here. Hopefully at around the same time and not weeks or months later. I'm ridiculously excited.

I enjoyed Discovery except for two minor niggles:

  1. I was (and am) desperate for new Star Trek canon that goes beyond the oldest (ie, until now, Voyager). This habit of going back into the past annoyed me.

  1. The thing I loved about the original shows, including Next Generation and Voyager was that while there were big picture themes throughout each season, each episode was often largely stand alone exploring a specific issue or concept. What I think of as the Isaac Asimov approach to sci fi. Discovery, especially season 1, was like a really long, drawn out soap opera or mini series.

Obviously, Picard overcomes my first complaint about Discovery. It's less clear it will do the same for my second as it certainly does look like it's about a single big conspiracy theme to manage.

[and it's why I'm excited for Discovery season 3... it feels like it will be entirely in new, unchartered territory].

From what I think I read online (though I can't provide a link I'm afraid), Stewart said he would only sign on if the script/tone was markedly different from TNG. So this works for him. It has a decidedly Firefly feel for me, though that's not a bad thing as far as I'm concerned, I bloody loved Firefly.

Agree about the constantly going backwards thing, though it's probably a safety net isn't it? Reliable fan base that they can appeal to. I'm pretty excited about Picard and I confess, I've also really enjoyed Discovery so am well up for Season 3.

Can't wait for this. Watched the whole of TNG and voyager on Netflix a few years back - didn't get on with discovery unfortunately as I love Jason Isaacs.

I love Jean Luc and am really enjoying the series so far. If Worf is in it, that will be perfection 😂

overnightangel · 14/02/2020 21:29

Riker and Troi are due to be in it, and Guinan in season 2 but no Worf as far as I’m aware I’m afraid @Riddo ☹️

I have enjoyed it so far but have to say my most excited moment came when I watched the latest episode and saw Seven. Brief though it was. Can't wait for next week to see what she has been up to.

Series so far feels like a really slow burn as I think they are trying to build up a new Star Trek universe where StarFleet is nowhere near what it was in the time of TNG or Voyager. With a second series already on the way I am hopeful.
