Anyone been watching this on Ch4 on Sunday nights? It's very interesting but I'm very surprised at some of the comments being made on camera about the guests. The wedding organiser works seriously hard !!!

I wonder if they are regretting letting the camera in now. I think a few members of staff may be getting their knuckles rapped. The mystique has gone but I’m also sure the staff have their patience sorely tested by some guests.

I’m thinking exactly the same. It’s not very professional at all. I wouldn’t want to stay there as they aren’t very discreet.

I could not believe that Chinese wedding. All those photographers and how many photos did they take?

Ridiculously over the top with all the different outfits. I didn't even want a photographer at my wedding and although we had one, we only let him take a few photos

I really like this programme. Sounds like they're very short staffed though and having trouble keeping people on

I stayed there for my 40th birthday. I will have to catch up on this.

I’ve been taken aback by the comments made by the staff, also the chef who was swearing and being really aggressive in episode 1.

The photographs taken at the Chinese wedding didn’t surprise me at all. Last year in Venice and Lake Como I watched about 7 of these wedding shoots going on and it was just as we saw at Cliveden.

Each to their own.

They said several times that photographs are very important to Chinese weddings but they did verge on being v rude to the people working at Cliveden by keeping them waiting for so long but I guess they were paying for it.

I would have been sooooo frustrated if I was that wedding planner.. but as you say, they will have paid for it.

I couldn't believe the hotel manager who spent 2 hours taking photos of that woman! What was she really going to do with all those photos and why couldn't her husband take them?

Report
mydogisthebest · 11/12/2018 10:25

Yes I thought the woman wanting the hotel manager to take tons of pictures of her was weird and also very vain. Like the Chinese woman too. Why would you want or need so many pictures of yourself?

Report

But then the whole point of these rich people in hotels like these is that you cater to their every whim

Report
MiniCooperLover · 11/12/2018 12:13

It's a min of £500 per night and jumps up to £1000 at weekends. The husband prob felt he'd paid enough for someone else to take the pictures 😳. But the wife came across so badly.

I agree about the chef. The manager should have told him to wind his neck in and stop swearing at waiting staff, rather than pandering to him and telling off the waitress.

These weddings are disgusting. Sorry, I'll get flamed, but the ostentatious money display is just shocking.

I don't know. You have a low salary you might spend a small amount of it on a wedding. You have a large amount of money then you'll spend more. Certainly the wedding last week, though clearly very expensive (they rented the whole place for the weekend at £150K) was quite classy. This week's two weddings maybe less so. I can't get too annoyed at rich people spending money, but I am still surprised the staff are being so open with their comments.

I didn't book or pay the bill as it was my birthday, but I really doubt DH paid £1,000 a night. He may well have paid £500. Looking now, about £450 per night looks normal and only some Saturday nights go up to £1,000 or more.

I have seen some of the program now, we didn't see anybody particularly dressed up or any ostentatious behaviour. It was low key. The staff were lovely, DH says we were upgraded by about three room types, as he let them know it was my birthday, they also took us out for a spin in the Rolls Royce on the day.

I watched the Indian wedding show and was surprised at the way the staff were acting.

The one staff member who kept on making comments about Gandhi was just plain embarrassing. Also the chef again saying the staff member in traditional Indian outfit looked like "Aladdin"...seriously? Don't they know cameras are in them??

Anyone watch the Japanese super model wedding tonight ??

I've loved this series, the money some people have to spend on weddings is mind boggling, the wedding tonight was unreal I can't begin to imagine the cost, but I wonder how much was sponsored/paid for by brands/magazines etc.
Having waitresses years ago, the chef was exactly as I remember, shouty and sweary !

I wonder how much Lydia is paid

I don't particularly like the doorman

It struck me how the meal wasn’t in keeping with everything else. It was a main course of beef Wellington and a dessert of chocolate mousse.

The Indian wedding was far better.

I hope the food & drink manager Dom apologised afterwards for calling one of the staff a dickhead when he got the number of puddings wrong!!!
