Following on from the classic Corrie thread thought I would start a classic Eastenders thread Smile

Can't believe how young Sharon and Ian look. Kathy looks just the same if not older than she does now.

Looking forward to the arrival of Dot Cotton soon

I have just watched the two from today. Ian Beale looks so young and so slim - totally different to how he looks now!

I think both Eastenders and Corrie were better back then. Now the storylines seem far too extreme

I can't get Drama as we have Virgin. Help!! Sad

Ian looks very young, Kathy has aged well but then she was 'dead' for a number of years!
There was mention of a hypermarket - is it still there now as everyone uses the Kwikimart?

I haven't started watching this yet, I think the soaps were better back in the day.

I guess they've been going so long now that they've run out of ideas.

Oh I didn’t know about this! I don’t watch it anymore but really enjoyed it in the beginning. Will be watching 👍

I'm so excited about this! We are virgin media too so I managed to totally forget this was on the cards. Just found it in 'my shows' and stayed up far too late watching it Blush

The square, the Vic and the houses look so bleak compared to how they look today, it’s interesting to see it again but can’t say I get a warm glow from it like I do classic Corrie, it felt a bit depressing watching it.

sgt

Virgin lost the UKTV channels during a dispute but they have very recently been restored.

Yep I got an email about it the other day.

I'm enjoying it, but it makes me sad that the racism that was about then has become so prominent again now.

I'm only a few episodes in but I am hating Wendy Richard! I always remembered her as being a fan actress playing a good character, but honestly she isn't all that - maybe i will grow to like her again!

I can't believe how much she is drinking considering she's pregnant!! Was hillarious when she went in the Vic and they have her Pernod to settle her stomach

Loving it. Depressing but great look back at social history. Can’t believe how old Arthur looks and young Paulina they do not look good together. Don’t remember her mum being so nasty either.

Nik cottons trousers are so tight it’s a wonder he can breathe never mind walk.

When does Dot come in? Grin

The houses are so grim, and has anyone spotted airbrushed breasts on the posters at the Vic?

It is grim, a lot of the scenes in the vic I am struggling with because it is so dark

I’m on about episode 6 shein few up on drama app. The Vic seems have wall down middle but looks no different either side. Must be throw back from war had ladies area?

It did used be more common for much older women to work like Ethel guess no pension or very basic state no top up like know. She looks about 75 already.

Hard judge prices as even now cafe is dead cheap. They were paying lofty like £20 for shift in pub yet a pint was 76p! These days 25 pints would cost far more than one night work.

I didn’t realise dr leg was in it so much back then, he’s got a few stories lines already. I always just thought he was person talked about but rarely saw.
