Talking about their future in the countryside, you stupid man Tom you jinxed her!!!

SimonBridges Sun 04-Mar-18 21:13:17

Anyway, just wanted to get the thread started.

Yes talk of babies is like ‘last day on the force’.

BikeRunSki Sun 04-Mar-18 21:13:33

It seems very odd bringing her back for one episode. Couldn’t se have just stayed away indefinitely?

SimonBridges Sun 04-Mar-18 21:14:38

I’d be more pissed off if they had killed her off off screen.

toolazytothinkofausername Sun 04-Mar-18 21:15:11

But why kill her off?!? Couldn't they have just amputated some limbs and called it a day?!?

BestIsWest Sun 04-Mar-18 21:15:51

Linda Bassett deserves a BAFTA or something. Acts everyone else off the screen

toolazytothinkofausername Sun 04-Mar-18 21:16:04

Or she could have stayed away and lived happily ever after!

Polarbearflavour Sun 04-Mar-18 21:16:49

I knew she was going to die when she rallied so suddenly.

Thought Tom’s acting was a bit over dramatic and never thought that he and Barbara made a convincing couple.

I did think the Psalm and Amazing Grace was nicely done and the voiceover at the end was touching.

Remand Schools - don’t give the current government any ideas! Workhouses and homes for unmarried mothers next?

toolazytothinkofausername Sun 04-Mar-18 21:16:59

BestIsWest Hear hear!!! Linda Bassett was amazing!

Aragog Sun 04-Mar-18 21:17:02

Amputation and having her make changes and strive against adversity in her quest to remain linked to midwifery would have been a much better story. Presumably the actor chose to leave the series???

MrsJayy Sun 04-Mar-18 21:17:43

Bloody nora that was a! snotfest proper sobs and tears as soon as she got visitors we knew she was a goner Poor Barbara (sob)

Owletterocks Sun 04-Mar-18 21:17:47

No need call the midwife! I was actually going to start a thread saying that this series hasn’t been as devastating as previous series and then this happens!

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece Sun 04-Mar-18 21:18:01

I thought the most we were looking at was amputation!!

I can certainly think of someone else I’d have preferred they kill off!

You still here Shelagh angry

MrsJayy Sun 04-Mar-18 21:20:17

It was nurse Crane set us off dd ran upstairs muttering something about college work .

AnneEyhtMeyer Sun 04-Mar-18 21:20:18

So Shelagh will be back permanently at Nonnatus House then. Oh great. Even more opportunities to shoe-horn in appearance s by Dr Smug.

Elvisola Sun 04-Mar-18 21:20:30

Why did they just not cut off her fingers? Did they not realise in the 60's that you have to cut off the dead tissue?

My grandad died of septicaemia in the 50's as he trod on a rusty nail, I would have thought that by mid 60's they would amputate as a matter of course.

MyOtherProfile Sun 04-Mar-18 21:24:22

Watching on iplayer now but had to check on here if it was a happy one or not. Have now set my work laptop up rather than give a sob fest my full attention.

Gooseysgirl Sun 04-Mar-18 21:27:02

OMG just finished watching on iPlayer and I'm in bits sad

littlemissalwaystired Sun 04-Mar-18 21:27:31

I'm watching on iPlayer now, at least I know what to expect. Before all these threads I'd never noticed the teal but now it's all I can focus onangrygrin

MrsJayy Sun 04-Mar-18 21:27:58

My friend died of septicemia inthe late 90s she had a urine infection and it just took her over I didn't get to visit her because I was pregnant it was heartbreaking she was 29 sad

Toddlerteaplease Sun 04-Mar-18 21:29:48

They could have done a good story line with them both coming to Terms with her amputations. I love CTM, but this series has been disappointing. Time to stop now.

WitchSharkadder Sun 04-Mar-18 21:31:53

They killed us into a false sense of security with all the schmaltzy happy endings this series before delivering the killer blow.

I agree Phyllis is an absolute star, such a fantastic actress.
