Only just discovered it and I love it. Mandy the local hard woman (and tattoo artist) is a joy!

We love it as a family. There’s a video on YouTube of them being interviewed by Romesh Ranganathan which is also very funny.

We love it especially because we live near where it was filmed. It's mine and dds guilty pleasure.

Thanks, SashaSashays. I found and watched the interview.

Hoping to see more of Big Mandy and her book of tattoos in series two.

Tomaaato!

Off to get my turkey dinosaurs out of the oven.

Also loving this show.

There was a couple if Kerry's when growing up on my estate. Dressed exactly the same and liked ordering 9 year olds about and completely oblivious as to how weird it looked!

It’s so well observed. I like all the little details like Mandy’s terrible neck tattoo and wolf blanket. It’s very different from many BBC comedies and it’s nice to see something fresh.

I like the fact that what really makes it are the little observations about people's character traits, the way they express their thoughts etc. I think if you've lived on an estate or in a community which is quite close knit you recognise a lot of the characters.

Also like the backstory of the two writers being frustrated at their lack of options living in a rural area and drawing success from it. Only watched the first episode of series 2, but looking forward to the rest.

I live where its filmed and although I don't know them DH does (DH went to school with them), I think everyone can relate to the characters in some way which makes it very funny watching :D I love the show as its very honest & down To earth and nothing else like it on at the moment. I hope it keeps going for a long time Grin

I had a mooch around the Internet, and there are a couple of great interviews with 'Kerry' and 'Kurten'.

The more I watch, the more I appreciate just how well observed it is. I grew up, not in that area, but on a newish council estate in a small town. These people exist; they really do! I know at least one Mandy, Kerry, Kurten.
Kerry's dad - what a wanker! Genuinely vile.

The model thing doesn't seem to fit, though. Charlie Cooper was a shockingly pretty male model, but seems so utterly unaffected by the experience.

Can't wait to see how it develops Smile

I find it hilarious her mum shouting from upstairs

Report
Stu123 · 10/03/2018 22:09

And given Kerry’s mum is voiced by Daisy May Cooper, it’s cleverly done; it always seems like a real conversation (shouting match).

Was cringing when Martin Mucklowe was relaying the mother-in-law sister-in-law story to Kurtan and the lad that baked the Victoria Sponge (and later in the episode got a “stalk on”)... given the actor that plays Martin (Paul Cooper) is Charlie Cooper’s dad. Grin

I love this show so much. Genuine belly laughs when Mand was demonstrating her numchuck skills. And the letters from Kerry's admirer Grin Grin

I read this thread a few days ago and then watched it on the iplayer.

Really good, well-observed but not sneery at all about the characters. The format is a bit of piss-taking out of the solemn BBC documentaries (which can come off as presenting a middle-class take on working-class life, and therefore a bit patronising sometimes).

The BLT scene with the mum upstairs had me in stiches. ToMAAAAHto.

Also couldn't stop laughing at that scene with Kurtan and the wheelbarrow on the building site.

Am still laughing now.

I love this show! And yes to recognising all of the characters. Mandy is fantastic.

The stalker letters were hilarious. As was Kurtin threatening all sorts about his Ex’s new boyfriend and then when he walked past him saying “alright” Grin brilliant. It’s exactly how that plays out in real life.
