It’s really scary!! I’m half watching with s blanket over my head!

blimey, I only go into my cellar in broad daylight. I would never go into a strange cellar at night! Even with two strong men to protect me.

The fake Cello playing is annoying me. (Cello teacher here)

Going to watch it in a minute. I don’t do too scary should I rethink watching it?

longtompot · 02/02/2018 22:03

I don't do scary at all. I managed to 'watch' it by doing stuff on my ipad as well. I guessed the first puzzle though.

The 'twist' was fairly obvious and the main character I'd rather irritating, but it did freak me out!

Clawdy · 02/02/2018 22:25

Not half as scary as I expected - but it's early days, I suppose.

I really enjoyed it

Love a good supernatural story though I don't find them in the least bit scary

I'm always a bit disappointed that these things never scare me even a bit

Looking forward to next week

The scariest thing about that was her strange wig.

Clawdy · 02/02/2018 22:50

Yes, that fringe was very distracting!

I thought it would be better due to Joanne Scanlan and Clare Rushbrook who are both excellent actresses, I’ll watch next week, but I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be like that Michael Palin series Remember Me, which was very atmospheric, and creepy but unfortunately disappointing.

I've just binged the first 4 episodes. Omg it's so bloody incredible

Report
BumpowderSneezeonAndSnot · 03/02/2018 01:10

Those who are sceptical stick with it. It's pretty formulaic but well done

I'm binge watching and on ep3. Not scary (I'm a big horror fan) but intriguing and addictive!

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/02/2018 09:36

I thought it was quite atmospheric, although it seemed like it might've been better as a half-hour drama.

The Aussie heir seemed a bit unnecessary and what's Bates from Downton up to?

Also are the lead characters meant to be platonic friends? Colleague? A former couple? A woman and her gay best friend? Or does he fancy her but not vice versa?

And what's with that fringe???

Middleoftheroad · 03/02/2018 09:57

@QueenOfTheAndals

I've spotted three Game of Thrones cast members so far! Two from My Mad Fat Diary...

Report
ReelingLush18 · 03/02/2018 10:28

The Aussie heir seemed a bit unnecessary a very useful plot device to enable Tilly and Hal to get to stay in the haunted manor house. Otherwise it wouldn't have happened?

We thought it was weak overall - not scary, not tense even - dare I say it - Young Adult?

Toor rushed in places, too slow in others. No match for Crickley Hall (Suranne Jones I think)

Cliched and trying too obviously to subvert cliches.

Confusing at the beginning (rushed). I thought it was going to be a cliched Northern Mum dowe to that there London to see her Lass make it ont' London stage but it wasn't - she was an anxious London Mum watching her long successful daughter who lives elsewhere in London.

Fair enough.

Could have done without the whole beginning - could have just opened with the daughter opening the box of memories in her mother's flat.

I doubt the beginning has any relevance at all and I suspect the cello won't be seen again until the last episode.

Dragged relentlessly in the Welsh village - where it all got a bit Rural, Royston Vasey and Straw Dogs and 'what you want round 'ere? This is a local shop for local people.'

Scooby Doo in the basment when they found the tape deck meant to scare off them pesky kids?

Locked door upstairs. Banging doors in the night. Blowing drapes - windows open too then? Pitiful babies. Suggestions of child abuse, kidnapping etc etc.

Twins perhaps? Incest probably. How very dare you ;)

Probably won't tune in again unless there's really nowt on.

Trailer for next week promising loads of 'shocks' as though they know episode one won't have lived up to expectations.

Like a lot of BBC drama of late - saturation publicity on the state monopoly propaganda station - if they had to pay for the advertising they might not big their programmes up so much when they know they're going to be such a let-down. Like Rellik etc etc

Thumbs down from me.

@Middleoftheroad Who was the third? Joel Fry was one and Tara Fitzgerald is in episode 2.

@ReelingLush18 I meant that making him Australian was a bit random. Unless it's going to end with Matilda escaping down under with him!

Dh and I watched the first three episodes last night - I think we will watch more tonight - it is gripping.

As a musician, and a former cellist, the thing that shocked me the most was the main character smashing up her cello!

Report
BumpowderSneezeonAndSnot · 03/02/2018 13:56

Yy the cello being smashed up means it's no longer a plot device but as a musician it made me wince
