Anyone watching this new series by Kay Mellor?

Not a bad opening episode. I wish I knew I'd needed tissues sobs Rebecca Flack (I hope I have her name correct) is playing a good baddie.

I think her name is Rebecca Front. She was also in Lewis, wasn't she? The part she plays in this is quite meaty. Not a nice character to cross!

I reckon this has the makings of a decent series. I've liked the other dramas Kay Mellor has written. I really enjoyed The Syndicate and In the Club.

littlemissneela · 16/11/2017 22:28

Oops, yes you are correct. She is Rebecca Front. I love her in W1A and lots of other things she has been in. I wouldn't like to cross her either.
I also liked The Syndicate and the first series of In the Club. It went a bit silly in the last series. I hope this doesn't go the same way.

I liked it.

LoniceraJaponica · 16/11/2017 22:31

I enjoyed it as well. I like Kay Mellor's stuff. Anyone remember Band of Gold?

MyBrilliantDisguise · 16/11/2017 22:34

I'm enjoying this now on catch up. Great setting for a drama.

Ilovelblue · 16/11/2017 22:35

You're right about the second series of In The Club littlemiss- I often think a second series is nowhere near as gripping as the first.

MyBrilliantDisguise · 16/11/2017 22:43

Oh that wedding was so sad!

Emily7708 · 16/11/2017 22:44

Really enjoyed this and am looking forward to the next episode. Does anyone know what RGL stands for?!

VenusOfWillendorf · 16/11/2017 22:52

I think RGL is Registrar's General Licence, its needed to conduct a wedding ceremony in a place that's not registered to conduct weddings.

I enjoyed it too, and just happened to be flicking around when it started; I'd not seen it advertised. Will watch again next week.

Emily7708 · 16/11/2017 23:12

Ah thank you - I couldn’t work it out and Google came up with nothing.

JeanSeberg · 16/11/2017 23:14

They organised the wedding pretty quick!

calzone · 16/11/2017 23:36

Oh it was good.

So sad but lots of potential.

MyBrilliantDisguise · 16/11/2017 23:42

She's going to get into trouble about the name on the baby's birth certificate. She was silly to do that.

Muddlingalongalone · 16/11/2017 23:43

I enjoyed it - very promising. But I've liked other Kay Mellor work so when they said at the beginning it was her I was hopeful.
Look forward to next week

dolfinne · 17/11/2017 08:03

i tend to like a lot of stuff both Ashley Jensen ( really like agatha raisin its a shame it stopped) and Adrian Bower are in so will probably give it a watch

AuntieStella · 17/11/2017 08:08

What happened re baby's name on the certificate? I was only half watching.

Optimist1 · 17/11/2017 08:37

On the baby's birth certificate she should have entered the mother's name at the time of the birth, i.e. her maiden name, but they really wanted it to show all their surnames the same and asked her to use the married name. She complied. I agree, it's likely to come back and bite her.

Does anyone think that the murdered woman the police were investigating will be one of the Slovenian (?) brides?

LoniceraJaponica · 17/11/2017 09:40

Yes I do. It's all rather fishy.

dolfinne I hadn't realised that the Agatha Raisin stories had been made for TV. I have just finished two AR books.

LoniceraJaponica · 17/11/2017 09:44

Just checked, it was on Sky. That's why I missed it.

littlemissneela · 17/11/2017 10:59

I think the body in the water will be the young bride to be too :(

I also think that she will get married to her cop boyfriend in the last episode (not up with the names yet), but at the ceremony when they ask any reason why not blah blah Rebeccas character will say something then about the Christmas do.

Looking forward to next weeks episode. Poor James though, but it must be really hard for his wife after all that time being together.

But why the hell would anyone cheat on Adrian Bowers??? he's bloody gorgeous Grin

MissEliza · 17/11/2017 14:36

I thought looked rubbish but I was pleasantly surprised. Ashley Jensen and Rebecca Front are great actresses. TBH I’m a bit scared of Rebecca Front’s character!
Just one nit to pick though. The partner of the dying woman came into register the baby’s birth without the mother. If the parents aren’t married or don’t have a British marriage certificate, the father can’t do it alone. I guess I’m being picky though.

I enjoyed this too. Can I be picky? Is it really likely that a terminally ill woman would give birth in a hospice and not a hospital given how close to death she was? They said the baby was 2 days old.

LarkDescending · 17/11/2017 15:33

MissEliza I think the partner came in for the appointment to register the birth but wasn't able to because Jenny (?) was too ill to accompany him (and as you say, she needed to be there given that they weren't married). So the registration of the birth was done at the hospice went they went to do the marriage.

PerspicaciaTick · 18/11/2017 01:33

It was a bit poo. Especially telling the bride "You are in pain and you are dying" in the middle of her ceremony - insensitive cow.
