Ooh will look out for that

Think it’s 1986. Alan Bradley had just arrived on the scene

Let's hope Rita has more sense than to let him into her life this time round.

I'll look out for it - thanks for the warning.

Oh caught this on ITV3 by accident a few days ago - Kevin punching Terry Duckworth for going out with Sally! Mike Baldwin going out with Susan (she is as awful an actress as I remember and no spark between her and Mike). It is lovely and gentle, much more thoughtful and considered. Worse sets but better writing. (Saw Paul Abbot on the credits) Loved when the pub was empty and Bet and the other barmaid were chatting and bored. The half hour episode just flies in. This wasn't even "peak" Corrie (a few years before I think) but really shows up how poor and sensationalist it is now.

It isn't on the ITV Hub/catch up though - so can't binge watch!

I can’t get over how small all the meals are. And when Kevin said to sally “ if I see you look at terry again I punch you instead of him “ would not get away with that nowadays lol

I'm really enjoying it but I don't like Ken. The way he bosses Susan around, refusing to 'give her away to Mike Baldwin' until he's saved up enough. How things have changed. These days she wouldn't bother getting married.

Really like Sally and Kevin, she's so much fun in the old days.

Like Bet, Betty and Gloria too.

I suppose ken is supposed to be coming across as old fashioned in the “modern thinking 80s”

Just caught up with the last 2 episodes.

Hilda and her comment about not having interior motives!

Hilda commenting to Kevin that Vera's haircut reminds her she needs to get some shredded wheat.

The half hour seems to fly by.

The comic characters (who were also totally believable as real human beings) were what lifted Corrie above the rest.

Hilda was my idol! (Her and Lois off Malcolm in the Middle)

The green leather Mike Baldwin sofa Grin

....and the 80s clothes, bringing back —embarrassing— memories!

I'm so confused - who was Susan talking to at the very start on the morning of the wedding? It looks very like herself but the accent is all wrong!

I think it was Peter's girlfriend. Loving Sally's outfit at the party - bright yellow hair ribbon, yellow tights, garish jumper, tight skirt and kitten heels! Hilarious. If that party was the current teens there would be a drug OD, a sexual assault, house trashing etc but it was just about a few mates and some girls round for (a "rave up" as Martin called it) some drinks - "Cidinis" the drink of the Coronation Street jet set and a bit of a bop and was all the better for that.

Channel 10 on Freeview

Is Classic also on ITV hub?

If you scroll through your listings most basic TV packages have ITV3 (we have basic/cheapest virgin broadband, tv deal)

You can watch them "live" but I record them on my TIVO box as they are on mid afternoon when I am out. They show 2 each week day 2.40pm and 3.15 and I think they might show some on repeat on Saturday. We are in about 1986 now I think. However, they don't appear on my catch up service or on the ITV hub ( for later viewing) due to "copyright" issues.

It's strange to see Gail married to Brian, but working with Martin, Curly before he worked at Freshco, with his mullet, and Kevin with Sally as loves young dream, knowing all that is ahead of them. I wonder if the actors thought they would still be in the series now? I am looking forward to Raquel, brilliant character

The characters just work with each other, there aren't any pointless ones and the cast seems to gel. Corrie needs to go back to proper stories and characters that are there for a reason rather than trying to be sensational

I agree. But I don’t think Gail and Brian had much chemistry on screen

Audrey is much fonder of Alf than I remembered. I always thought she was a bit dismissive of him (Until he died). I never really liked Alf when I was younger and found Percy Sugden very annoying but now I find him funny in these re runs.

i agree Kannet that Brian and Gail don't really have chemistry. I think Martin was a better fit. I think the "actor" playing Brian was just too full of himself and was so used to being around "Dolly birds" in the press that Gail was a bit too ordinary for him. Don't think he was a team player. The most recent Nick actor was far too old for the part in this Nick(y) is only about 3 or 4 and Gail will soon be pregnant with Sarah.

I agree. Nick in classic Corrie is a year or younger than I would have been at the time. The guy who played him recently looked mid forties

Anyone think that Peter Barlow is nothing like he is now? It's obviously a different actor but I just find the difference in personality a bit hard to believe. Tracy, on the other hand - even though a child at the time - was even then taking bribes not to catch the bride's bouquet! Grin

This is all before my time but is the cafe where Phyllis, Gail and Martin work where Roy's Rolls is now? It seems huge in comparison.

Also where do Gail and Brian live? I can't work out the layout
