Anyone else watch it?

Can't decide if I liked it or not. Very violent. The one female God gets the naked sex scene.

I love Ian McShane though and will keep watching for him.

Watched it last night - not sure yet - it is very violent. Not read the book so I am a bit confused at the moment. Will watch the next one and then decide.

I'm watching, didn't expect the amount of blood but loved the bone forest & the fiery buffalo! I've not read the book either

we watched it, not sure about the filming style personally, it felt a bit "1980s BBC" very high focus in front and very very fuzzy background... it was a bit offputting

I can't WAIT to watch this. I found the book without knowing anything about in a second hand book shop on holiday. Started reading it and ignored the rest of the holiday, such a fantastic read (if you are into that kind of thing, dark melding of old fable). And Ian Mcshane is always a huge treat to watch. Am waiting to finish Transparent with my parter before we start American Gods.

Started watching this last night then was enraged to find it wasn't the full series on and I've to wait until next week to see episode three.

Not read the book but am assuming all the gods are of things that the people worship - sex, tv, technology etc? Trying to work out what Ian McShane is meant to be if that's the case.

It's intruiging, not sure what I'll make of it yet and am tempted to read the book in the meantime. I like 'weird' but was burnt with The OA recently, regretted watching that to the end.

I loved episode 2. Enjoyed it more than the first episode.

I didn't really like the God of Sex scenes, the lighting was off and it was rather repetitive. Give her some lines ffs.

This is my favorite book, I read it every couple of years. I'm watching and hoping it will get better but so far for me the TV series is not living up to the original story.

For those interested Mr. Wednesday – is Odin, the Old Norse god of knowledge and wisdom, aspects which he uses to his advantage as a confidence artist.

The weekday Wednesday means Odin's day.("Wōdan's Day")

Yeah, I thought Ian McShane was Odin. Wondered if that guy last night was Thor or Loki. He talked about a brother. He seemed too old though.

Strangely dad and I were discussing today how Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are named after people in Norse mythology - and I still didn't twig Grin so thanks Stormy

I dunno. It didn't massively grab me which I was gutted about really. All a bit too odd for me I think.

I'm not sure if I ever finished the book actually now I come to think about it.

Have started season 3 of Fargo instead.

I watched episode 1 but was really put off by the graphic violence and blood which seemed excessive. I've not bothered to watch any more and I had been looking forward to it.

Gillian Anderson was "Media" - goddess of, well, media.
The eastern European chap is Czernobog not Loki.

I love the book and have read it about three times. [grin

Only seen the first episode so far but I like what they've done with it. Ian McShane as Wednesday is perfect.

DH hasn't read the book but watched the first episode and liked it, though he did ask me a few questions.

Watched episode 1 last night.

DH wanted to quit after the first 20 minutes but we watched it all. Am not yet sure what it's about but will watch further episodes before I make up my mind.

I watched episode 3 last night- I still have no idea what the fuck is going on, but one thing is for sure- that sex scene was way, way, way too much for my sensibilities. Must have been fun to film it!

I loved the first episode, I was going to wait until Amazon had loaded all episodes but couldn't. Loki is the guy he was in prison with.

Hoppingreen - could you explain it to us??!!

Loki - thanks for saying who Loki is. Just told dh and he can't remember his face. I seem to remember he was handsome. Yes?

It's mainly who the Gods are and he keeps asking me why Shadow is so important to everyone- not telling that bit though!!

EllaHen · 20/05/2017 08:43

Ah, so he's more than just a bodyguard?

My take is that there is a power struggle between old and new Gods. However, they haven't converged yet so I have no idea about dynamics.
