Casualty continued...

A sudden flurry of posts following Cal's death has brought us to the end of the last thread. So let's continue as we were - there's so many unanswered questions. Have we seen the last of Gem as she heads back to incarceration? How will Charlie and Duffy cope with Robyn and the baby? Who is next in line to be stabbed? Will the illegal strike continue now that Cal isn't there to lead it? And most of all, will Ethan be reunited with his specs?

It only took just over two years to fill the last thread 😂

From the old thread...

It's the trade union who call for a strike, not individual workers. The union has to organise the ballot and then give 14 days notice of strike action to the employer.

This aspect is really bugging me. Strike action is being made to look like it's an unregulated free-for-all to be used by individuals at will in order to further their personal vendettas. When actually it's a highly-regulated last resort, after all attempts at collective negotiation have broken down.

OK, so there's lots of stuff on Casualty that is unrealistic and stretches credibility. But given the junior doctors' dispute at the moment, plus the and desperately restrictive new trade union legislation, I can't help but wonder if there's a political motivation here.

YY to the person who asked if anyone remembers Charlie as union rep. He was a feisty young thing back in the day!

I suppose Cal dying could have solved the problem of having to get rid of one of the doctors? Plus Lily will be off sick for maybe one episode so that will save a few quid.

Will next week be too soon for the funeral (that we won't see) and the obvious wake afterwards at the only pub in Holby. Apart from the other one that they go to in Holby City Hmm.

Good point, but I bet they don't, cos you know, the storyline

Is it posible that the action that Cal, Ethan and the others took was actually a work to rule rather than a strike? I was under the impression that they'd all actually finished their shifts and had refused to cover the following shift. I've no idea about the legal requirements for a work to rule, though!

But will Ethan have any time off because his brother -the only member of family he had -was killed?

I'm guessing not

I think he's going to take body-building classes and go after the murderer. Either that, or the murderer whose name entirely escapes me will be in another life-threatening fight and Ethan after much soul-searching will save his life causing Duffy to put her head on one side and look concerned, and Charlie to do his mouth-in-a-straight-line thing.

Are Iain and Lily going to become the new Max and Zoe?

Probably except a doctor dating a professionally trained and degree educated paramedic is slightly more realistic than a senior registrar dating a porter -who according to Saturday's episode is only 28 so also with a huge age gap

Why has Sam rocked up from the states and taken over the hospital?! Duffy, Robyn Louise need to be next on Stabby McStabbersons hit list I think!

Sam has only taken over the ED, no mention of him in Holby City which is odd considering he is supposed to be Medical Director and in charge of Super Important Stuff like budgets.

He also had a long term partner who was pregnant when he first popped back up. Maybe she's looking after Grace's puppy?

Possibly with the dog, or looking for him.

francis

The majority of paramedics are degree qualified now, those that aren't have passed 3 years training that's roughly equivalent

As far as I know army training isn't transferable

Will Charlie ever learn to look at people when he is speaking to them?

I think I've given up hope of that after 30 years Sad
