Is anyone else watching this fantastic series shown late on Sunday evenings ? It is a fascinating look at American schooling from both the staff and student perspectives and is set in a large secondary school in a predominantly black area in South Carolina. The head teacher is just awe inspiring , wise ,practical and sensible though my jaw did drop last week when he stood in the corridor chatting to students and handing out money to them if they needed it and telling them to pay him back when they could -wow ! The dedication of the staff especially the sports coaches is inspiring and gives the students, many of whom come from very difficult circumstances , a chance to make something of their lives . It's one of those programmes you find by accident when channel hopping and end up engrossed so do catch it if you can .
