Is anyone else watching this?
It's fantastic but so heartbreaking and brutal.

Waves at Jazz

Yes, its very brutal, but very well done.

Given the apparent budget of this, and the fact that the original series had one of the highest viewing figures ever, I'm really shocked at the low key release of this the lack of fanfare from the BBC and that it's so hidden away in the schedules.

We're enjoying it, though, but I have to say the stunning handsomeness of some of the characters (e.g. kunta kinte and chicken george) is somewhat distracting!

Kunta kinte is soooo handsome! I didn't know it was a remake.
It does seem to move down the generst ions fast, I get that 'roots' is the thing but I kind of want to know what happened in their whole lives too!
It seems really big budget and I don't think I've seen one advert for it. I stumbled across it on iplayer - v glad I did!

Is it simular to the original series? Or is it like poldark - sexier but less in depth?

Just finished it. It totally finished me off. One of the best series I've ever seen

I read Alex Hayley's books and they were amazing (despite being fabricated). I have seen the original and was blown away. I have all of these to watch!
