Nooooooo!!!! I always assumed they'd have to prise that role from his cold dead hands. He's been waiting for it for fifty years, how can he give it up so soon?

RacoonBandit Mon 30-Jan-17 22:27:51

Can't say I am sad. I didnt like him.

Sorry Peter fans blush

ImperialBlether Mon 30-Jan-17 22:29:07

I hope this means The Thick of It can be made again. They couldn't really ask for a better time to write it.

ThornyBird Mon 30-Jan-17 22:29:39

He's brilliant as Malcolm Tucker but he hasn't delivered as the Dr and he looks like my dead dad and that freaks me out a little

WallToWallBastards Mon 30-Jan-17 22:30:10

Imperial just what I was thinking when I clicked on the thread wink

DameVanillaSugar Mon 30-Jan-17 22:31:02

But...

Isn't he the LAST doctor?

Are they going to rewrite Doctor Who history? I wish they'd get David Tennant back.

Gingernaut Mon 30-Jan-17 22:31:29

I heard this on the Jo Whiley show this evening.

Now the Doctor has powers of infinite regeneration, they don't have to keep them too long.

I quite liked him.

RacoonBandit Mon 30-Jan-17 22:32:55

The Doctor i think was given 13 new lives when matt was regenerated by his home planet. I think the episode was called day of the doctor or something it may have even been matts last episode.

Bluntness100 Mon 30-Jan-17 22:34:32

Suspect he was pushed rather than jumped and they simply allowed him to save face and say it was his decision. I think he is a good actor, but I don't feel he does the role well.

BoneyBackJefferson Mon 30-Jan-17 22:36:40

I'm another that won't be sorry to see him go, but I do think that he hasn't had the best scripts, and I hope that the show gets back to being about the Doctor and not the bloody assistants.

TyneTeas Mon 30-Jan-17 22:52:21

Three series isn't a bad stint

MyWhatICallNameChange Mon 30-Jan-17 22:57:04

I can't say I warmed to him like I did the other three from the new series. He's a lovely man (know people who've met him and we saw him at the Doctor Who festival) but I'm not sure he was right for the role.

Maybe I miss Matt Smith, I thought he was amazing.

And agree about the companions, I wasn't keen on Clara really either.

strawberrypenguin Mon 30-Jan-17 23:00:19

I never really warmed to him as the Doctor so can't say I'm that sad. Really enjoyed Eccleston and Tennant but thought the casting hasn't been great since then although Matt Smith grew on me a bit. Hope they cast someone amazing this time

EverySongbirdSays Mon 30-Jan-17 23:01:19

Delighted. Least favourite doctor ever.

HecateAntaia Mon 30-Jan-17 23:02:07

Good.
It hasnt been a good fit for him.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig Mon 30-Jan-17 23:07:44

I don't understand it anymore. I can't follow it. Quite liked Ecclestone and Tennant but since then I can't follow the story. They talk utter gobbledegook and I just don't understand. Has the writing gone downhill or is it me? Not keen on Capaldi in the role but don't like it anymore anyway.

MrsWhiteWash Mon 30-Jan-17 23:09:46

I thought he was starting to find he feet with the role sad - but it have felt most of his time they haven't somehow got the doctor quite right.

MrsWhiteWash Mon 30-Jan-17 23:11:58

Has the writing gone downhill or is it me?

I think there have been brilliant scenes - but overall I do think it's been weaker somehow.

llangennith Mon 30-Jan-17 23:13:35

Good. He wasn't right for the part.
Maybe they'll fire the current scriptwriters too and go back to plots that made sense.

OdinsLoveChild Mon 30-Jan-17 23:15:28

So the question is, will there be another Dr and Who do you think it will be?

Badcat666 Mon 30-Jan-17 23:19:52

Damn it.

Heard some of the interview and he was getting quite chocked up about it.

Really liked him as Dr Who, was getting fed up with the "pretty boys" who only seemed to be there as an excuse for "snogs and romances" with their young pretty companions.

Oh well I suppose its back to some eye candy again mehs to self

BonnesVacances Mon 30-Jan-17 23:20:11

He is DD's favourite doctor so she'll be really disappointed. She's a massive Whovian.

GinIsIn Mon 30-Jan-17 23:22:37

Good - he was a terrible doctor, haven't been able to watch it for ages!
