Busby quintuplets!!

Wonder if anyone is watching this. It's on TLC on Monday night at 9 - I found it by accident, just scrolling through looking for something to watch. It's an American family- (Adam and Danielle) they have a 6 year old daughter and "quints" who are 15 months old. The babies look identical to me - all red haired though both parents and 6 year old all have dark hair. I don't know if an egg can split into 5 - I wouldn't have thought so? Maybe identical triplets and identical twins - not sure.

They live in an enormous house which must have cost a fortune! I can't believe that there is not help going on behind the scenes as both parents appear bright eyed and bushy tailed, and I don't think that would be the case if you were looking after 5 toddlers single handed! One of the babies has just had to have eye surgery and both parents are obviously stressed about this. Danielle is clearly the boss and her mother has just moved in with them, though don't think Adam really wanted that to happen.

It's not clear what Adam does for a job but it must cost a fortune - on a recent trip to the supermarket Danielle filled a huge trolley just with nappies, wipes and milk! I imagine they will be paid well for the TV show and maybe other sponsors behind the scenes.

Would be interested in what other MNs think about the programme.

I am watching it, two of the girls are identical and only one is very ginger the rest are strawberry blonde. The parents had iui with fertility drugs too which is why they got so many at once, they had the same treatment when they conceived their older daughter! It's amazing how they got so many the 2nd round.

In the first season Adam''s job was explained I can't remember what it is but I know they are in loads of debt they really focused on how in debt they were as formula and everything was so expensive. But they seem to have glazed over that this season. Although I am sure they still are in debt but I suppose they don't want to keep going on about it.

The girls are super adorable :)

Sorry I should have said it was called OUT-DAUGHTERED. I didn't see the last one, presumably when the babies were younger. Well my TV must be different from yours cookielove as the girls all look identical to me and all seem to have gingery hair. I think very often parents of ginger haired children say they are "strawberry blonde" - I have a little DGD who has ginger hair and her mom always makes a point of saying she is strawberry blonde, as though there's something wrong with having ginger hair! My son says "she a ginge......" and she giggles. She' beautiful whatever colour hair she has.

I don't know about debt - that house is just amazing - maybe property is cheaper in the states. The other thing is Danielle's figure - she has a beautiful figure after carrying 5 babies - she must have been huge but she doesn't look like she's had even one baby!

I love this show! I was in a fb group about the show but left as admin were over the top, deleting comments, turning off posts so no one could comment. Danielle was in that group too, barely commented but she did respond to a few posts and said both of them worked in the oil industry and Adam still does. She also said that her body was in the best possible shape before she got pregnant with the quints and she thinks that was why she could get back to a good shape.

Apparently all the matching clothes come from the same label so they will be getting paid to advertise them.

I think Adam gives Mimi a hard time but I love the closeness of all the family.

I like Adam and Danielle. I do think they have a lot of help from family and friends though. Danielle goes to the gym so is super fit.

They have also had help from their church who bought them the car bus they need to fit all the children in.

ElspethFlashman · 19/01/2017 11:37

Yeah they're super religious and go to Bible study and the whole nine yards. I imagine the church helps them out as much as possible.

Don't they live in Texas? Depending on how rural they live, a big new build house would not cost anything like other areas for big houses.

Half of Houston works in the oil industry so seems likely that is where they work.

I love this show! They seem such a nice family, I hope they get paid for the program as I'm sure they must really struggle financially

Seem some of this, they are religious but not coming across as creepily so.

What struck me was they were so calm and patient with each other, and with the children. I'd be a raving loon in that situation.

I love this show!
Feel so sorry for the dad, the financial pressure of being sole earner and 6 kids relying on you at the age of 32, wife never being able to go back due to childcare costs & in latest episode Danielle's mum wants to move in and live with her 3 daughters long term.

Poor man!

cookielove · 22/01/2017 10:40

magic sorry to hammer the point but although the girls are similar looking they are not all identical 😂 it is easier to see when they are sat in a row!

I do love that they don't go on about religion but in all shoes like these they couple are always religious it would be shocking to see a family that wasn't!

FuckOffDailyMailQuitQuotingMN · 22/01/2017 11:12

I agree cookie I'd assume that it's because non-religious families would selectively terminate a few of the babies?

I'm just speculating.

Report
cookielove · 22/01/2017 11:41

Well I am an atheist and would never selectively reduce a pregnancy if it happened. In my mind it's more to do with what America expects to see "good wholesome values" and that goes hand in hand with beliving in god! I could quite happily see a family that didn't believe in God and enjoy the show

I've binged watched season 2 this weekend, I feel like I need a lie down after watching the quints in action. I couldn't imagine dealing with what the Busby's deal with 24/7!

Report
SpikeGilesSandwich · 23/01/2017 22:47

I watched an episode of this with my DH and all he could go on about was how ripped the husband is and how does he get the time to go to the gym as much as he clearly does?
The shopping trip was obviously a stunt for the cameras, surely in real life you'd get the bulk of your shopping delivered rather than do that every week.

cookielove why are you hammering the point about the likeness of the quins. OK I may well be wrong but I don't think you have any insider knowledge about the family do you, so I' not sure how you know that only 2 are identical. Presumably there could be a pair of fraternal twins, or identical ones but didn't share a placenta. It isn't really possible to tell just by seeing them on TV - I just thought they all looked so alike.

I still think there is a lot going on behind the scenes that we don't get to see - there is no way the parents could look like they do if they were caring for 5 babies of the same age and a 6 year old. I reckon there is an army of helpers who are kept out of sight. And yes there will be days and days of filming for the 1 hour programme and so will be edited to put the spin on that the producer wants I imagine.

I have a friend who has girl triplets and they were part of the Child of Our Time (Robert Winston's programme of children born in the first week of 2000) and they said the filming went on all day - over 12 hours or more and the girls would feature for 5 or 10mins at the very most, so a lot can be done with editing

I feel sorry for Adam. I thought it was shocking that Danielle's sisters and their noisy children all turned up at the hospital when Hazel was having surgery and I noticed Adam's face - he wasn't pleased and I'm not surprised. I think Mimi is going to be troublesome - not in a bad way -but she seems a little eccentric and entitled and Adam is clearly fed up with her already. Can anyone imagine telling their adult daughter they wanted to move in and live with them.................and she's calling out "I'm home" - sparks are gonna fly but Adam will have to suck it up as Danielle is clearly the boss!

Magic do you know what fraternal twins are , your comment about fraternal twins as part of quints makes no sense. There are identical twins within the quints that's all.
There are also not all ginger .
Great show though.

MagicChanges · 26/01/2017 14:17

Yes I do know what fraternal twins are - it's when 2 eggs are implanted and they develop separately with their own placenta, as opposed to identical twins where a single egg separates, and can develop with a shared placenta or with separate placentas and there are different types of identical twins. Do you have inside knowledge of this family as you and others seem to think you know about the conception of these quints.............and I'm pretty sure you don't. Incidentally why doesn't my comment about fraternal twins make sense please enlighten me.
And what does it matter how many are ginger - that's how they look to me.
I started this as a lighthearted thread but some of you seem to want to make "snippy" comments that are vaguely insulting.

Magic there were four eggs though, one spilt to form identical twins. Faternal twins are the result of just two eggs not as part of four four fertilised eggs.
No I don't the family but I do have multiples myself.
It doesn't matter who is ginger no ,I think you are being a bit sensitive.

I recently started watching this show and like this family a lot! I think they are probably "averagely churchy" for Texas and the differences in social security mean that they needed that support to survive.

@MagicChanges I found this house in their town, League City, Texas which looks similar to theirs.

It was widely reported in the media that the pregnancy was a result of 4 eggs being fertilised. So as a PP said, one set of identicals and the other 3 sororal.

Apologies - I can see now why my comment about fraternal twins didn't make sense. I don't know what sororal means though. Could the 3 fertilised eggs that didn't split be perceived as non identical triplets. Yes I am a bit sensitive - sorry - have a lot on my mind which is why I'm wasting time on MN!!

I have a friend who has non identical girl triplets - they don't even look like sisters, though one looks like an older brother and one just like her dad.

It was reported in the media and they recently did an episide which kind of went through the kids personalities and explained about who the identical ones are! They also explained about Hazels eyes which was interesting as i was quite curious about.

They do have help, one of the sisters put a plan where people offered to come help on certain days not sure it was affective enough but I think she is able to get some help in. I am sure as the quints get older and I mean 5+ they will be easier to take care of independently.

Fwi I don't feel I was being snippy
