Yes, enjoying it so far. It's mostly all the introductions at the moment but seems promising. It does remind me a bit of Mr Selfridge and seeing Charity Wakefield as a femme fatale in yet another 40's drama after 'Close to the Enemy' (also set in a hotel) is slightly odd - awful wig though!

Yes I enjoyed it. Bit predictable but easy on the eye

Enjoyable, some interesting characters, and one or two intriguing storylines. Perhaps too many familiar faces, and agree about Charity's wig!

Oooh when I read the brief in the tv mag I hoped it would replace the gap left by Mr. Selfridge 😊 will enjoy watching on catch up!

I find that head wobbling thing Kara Tointon does a bit distracting but aside from that I found it engaging enough. Hated Mr Selfridge though so hope it doesn't turn out like that.

Hoping it will be Hotel Babylon in a beautiful period setting. Promising so far.
I saw that Steven Macintosh on the C2 bus once in Camden Town!

I had a crush on Steven Mackintosh ever since I saw him in 'Our Mutual Friend' back in the 90's!

He's too skinny for me. He'd be all elbows and knees in bed.

Just watched it on catch up and really enjoyed it. DH reckons it has "potential". Looking forward to next week episode.

It was nice & easy to watch, wasn't it?

But Charity Wakefield's wig!

Was she supposed to look so awful so that people would wonder what on earth he sees in her rather than his wife?

Why was she at that meeting?

Report
Clawdy · 05/01/2017 11:09

Yes,that wig! I even found myself wondering if she was going to take it off in one of the scenes, and reveal cropped, chic black hair.....

Yes, clawdy perhaps during the bonking scene it could have flown off adding a certain dramatic je ne sais quoi to the proceedings! Grin

Charity's back and she's brought her wig with her!

Nice to see that nepotism is alive and well. Nothing like handing a plum job to your own daughter.

Otherwise it does feel as if it's progressing along fairly predictable yet still watchable and undemanding lines. It's kind of Mr Selfridge meets Downton with a tad of Home Fires thrown in - mostly the use of RAF uniforms and mocked up Spitfires as they were redundant after they cancelled said series. I couldn't help thinking however how brown everything seemed.

Started to watch the second episode, but just not feeling it so decided to give up. Not a serious drama like 'Close to the Enemy', but not light and fun enough either (like Mr Selfridge, say)

Shame, because they've obviously spent quite a bit on it, and there are some good actors in it.

I was a bit disappointed that Alex Jennings died in the first episode.

It seemed very unlikely that Steven Mac would admit to taking money from the safe. Loved the bit where he grabbed the horrible chef round the neck, though!

The receptionist/assistant manager is a bit full of her own self importance isn't she? Bit shouty and bossy and acts like she owns the hotel. Ideas above her station that one!

I'm losing interest. It's getting to be a bit bland and predictable.

I'm enjoying it, but eight episodes maybe too many. .....

Rhubarb01 · 16/01/2017 22:33

Yes, I have to agree with the comments about losing interest. It's pretty predictable stuff and I can even predict the dialogue in places! It's easy going drama for a Monday night, I suppose. However, I expect ITV will do well selling this overseas with such a thirst for period drama.
