I'm watching on catch up but can't see a thread. There must be one?

There doesn't seem to be one! Shall we start? I enjoyed it, it was fun and I love Peter Capaldi BUT it wasn't Christmassy enough. And at risk of offending - I don't like the US based ones, feels like it is selling itself to American viewers. Can't wait for the new series, though.

It didn't feel very Christmassy.

I absolutely loved it, thought it was much better than previous recent Christmas specials.

I guess the reason for asking is that we were a bit disappointed. We didn't need a Superman based episode but a Dr Who episode. It really did feel like it was aimed at gaining more American viewers.

Thought it was just OK. Definitely not Christmassy enough. I've surprised myself, though, by actually looking forward to Matt Lucas as a companion in the new series. It'll be a welcome change from the dynamic with the Doctor and a youngish female.

I liked it..Didn't feel like a Christmas episode though felt a bit lacking.thought would've worked well as a stand alone though.

Absolutely loved it.

Also rather enjoyed the air of Billie-Joe about the nanny.

Last year's was ok, really didn't like the 'Last Christmas' one before that so I wasn't expecting much, so was pleasantly surprised. I kept waiting for it to go horribly wrong and get all moffated!

I wish the writers would let the Doctor be the star of the show. He's been sidelined by companions (River and Clara in particular became the focus of the stories for years) and he was basically just a bystander while The Ghost was the star.
My favourite Christmas episode was the one with Nick Frost and the face huggers. You can't get more Christmassy than that!

Hated it.

Really struggled with Capaldi from the beginning. I'm much more a Tennant and Smith girl. This year's Christmas special left me totally cold and very disappointed.

Poor Peter Capaldi, I think his first series as the Doctor was quite poor and it took a while for him to hit his straps. The second series was much better and then there were a few episodes (hell bent and heaven sent) which were magnificent. Some actors seem to hit it straight away (Tennant and Ecclestone) but, to me at least, it took at least two series before I warmed to Matt Smith.

I rather like it - it wasn't trying to squeeze in too many plot twists, the superman/nanny was all heartwarming Christmas stuff, had a few funny moments and while I normally detest Matt Lucas' characters, this one grew on me. The Doctor is such a powerful character you need the stories to be about others too.

It was average. I'm just glad clara has gone.

I was really disappointed in it, I am slightly biased in my views though.

My partner also wasn't that interested, although we are both looking forward to Matt Lucas being involved.

We were die hard DW fans so, despite being disappointed in the last few years, we gave it a go. Gave up after 5 minutes. I will try again though.
Just watched the Sally Sparrow episode, now on Derek Jacobi as the Master - no comparison, that era was soooooo good

loved it. love PC. agree it was a bit leaving him out of the main draw bit, but I liked the fact it didn't do the xmas theme.

reminded me a lot of apart from Superman obv) the movie with Paul Mcgann, being America based.

made a change without the Claras/Amys/Roses for a change.
cant stand Matt Lucas but love him in this. missed last years where he was introduced. is he meant to be a bit ....naïve or something?

also loved the line when the guy split his head apart the Doctor saying about keeping an open mind! hee hee.

absolutely completely in love with Capaldi, hope the new series has decent stories, totes gone off 'new' Who cos of the stories and have totalyy got into classic Who-doctors1-8.

I was really disappointed. I thought it was predictable and pointless.

My favourite Christmas episode was David Tennant's first with the Sycorax. I've not seen this year's yet but may give it a go as some of you liked it and Clara has gone.

I watched it twice. First time I didn't understand it. Second time, I understood it but still hated it. Used to love DW. Really don't know why I bother now.

Quite good and a bit less forgettable than previous ones. I can't stop watching have done so for decades, but the plots and characters just dont stick in the mind as they did even as far as Tennant.

I think capaldi is excellent but I am concerned he will be the last doctor.

I thought it was great - funny, chaotic and a bit sad. Peter Capaldi seems to have settled into his character but I do think Dr Who's days are numbered.

First time I watched it I fell asleep. Second time I watched it I found myself wishing I could fall asleep. It was OK, probably the best episode yet with PC, but as I really don't like him, that's not saying much.
I have watched and loved DW since I was a child in the 1960's. But I find myself becoming indifferent towards it since the last change of Doctor. Xmas Sad
