What happened? Didn't watch it, but intrigued now!

That was AWFUL!

At least in the book it's ambiguous whether the bear wanted to make friends.

Poor bear.

What happened???

Well it all seems to be about missing grandad who appears to be no infer with them.

Then a friendly bear who follows them home but they're scared (bar one) so he goes home lovely to his cave all alone with no friends. He disappears into a dark cave and even his footprints are washed away from sight!

The bear was friendly and they shut him out in the cold. They had recently lost their grandad and were grieving. All in all really, cheery Christmas viewing.

Ok, that happens in the book though. Quite clear the bear is sad and lonely

Oh God. Mil is excitedly saving this for the children next week, we've promised not to let them know it's on (6 and 3, they won't have a clue) but if it's sad there's no way I'm letting them see it.

Total sobfest. There are no Christmas animations I can safely watch.

Northern - it was just very explicit though ugh; the book is only very subtle and more like a fantasy adventure outside. This was brutal!

I think you can take your own interpretation of the bear from the book. It is well and truly hammered home on tv what a pitiful character the bear is. My 5 yr old seemed to like it tho. Probably cos I allowed him to stay up late to watch it.

Yes 3yo nephew enjoyed watching it, totally oblivious!

It was the 14y teen as well as me and my sister!

We watched it very excitedly and were really disappointed, the main thing about going on a bear hunt is the rhythm of the words and it was lost amongst the other dialogue. Also why make it more explicitly sad? I wouldn't watch that again.

Also why wasn't Michael rosen mentioned in the end credits? Unless he didn't like the way they did it?

My three year old wasn't happy......."aw, poor bear mummy. He hasn't got any friends"

Wasn't how I remembered it (dc are late teens so could have got lost in mists of time) Felt it lacked the musicality of the original and other adaptations such as the Gruffalo. Poor lonely bear Sad
