Just wondering if I've missed a thread as dd was away at the weekend, so I wasn't allowed to watch until she got back . . .

Not surebit I will try to catch up on Peter Capaldi episode 1 later on today.

I've had a proper search now, and there doesn't seem to be. I thought there'd be more excitement from mumsnet the world in general. Not that much t of Peter Capaldi the Doctor, but I liked it a lot all the same.

We thought it was so bad we switched off halfway through the second episode! DD is a massive Dr Who fan and was so disappointed. We introduced her to Torchwood instead!

I found the first episode frustrating to begin with as I felt it was pandering too much to US audiences (references to Downton Abbey and the Queen; explanations about sixth formers not wearing uniform) but it grew on me. Patrick Ness is a good writer and there were some great lines.

It was a funny mix, I thought - explanation re the uniform (why? given that US pupils don't wear uniform anyway) but then presumably they'd be totally mystified by the OFSTED jokes. I did enjoy the episodes though as did dd (obviously much more the intended demographic).

Torchwood . . . many things I loved about it . . . but such crap plots so much of the time. I live in hope this will be more consistent and less inclined to kill -off the best characters--

How old's your CD, Sadik? Mine (nearly 13) spent the whole time moaning about how the actors looked too old...

Report
Sadik · 28/10/2016 19:03

Mine's 14 - tbh I didn't think they looked much older than some of her friends in 6th form!!!

Liked this week's episode - suitably halloween-y. Miss Quill is great, love the sarcasm.

I thought the Night Visitors episode was weak, but next week's looks good.

I watched the first one with my 12 yo DS, but the second one looks really gory. Not that i think they'd be bothered, but does anyone know if it's suitable. I tried to find out what age it was for. My 17 yo said it's for over 16 but he does like to wind his brothers up!

There was a thread last week, but not a very long one.

VixenLupin - it has a 'violence and upsetting scenes' warning on iPlayer and the parental guidance icon so you can set a pin. When I watched the first episode it asked if I was over 16, which it has remembered, so your 17 year old wasn't winding his brothers up!

I'd say the violence / general gore level is about the same as Buffy, and definitely less than Torchwood.

Have caught up on it. I am enjoying it.

Torchwood never had the doctor on it because mofffat/RTD didn't want kids transferring. I get the iPlayer warning too.

It's very Buffy, even a Hellmouth ref in there

Despite not being anywhere near young enough to count as the target audience, I'm really enjoying Class. The monsters are actually scary and the characters pretty well developed. It's better than Torchwood, anyway.

EsmesBees - I'm definitely not target audience, but I pretend I'm watching just to keep dd company . . . Grin

Miss Quill has leather trousers, sharp cheekbones, dyed blonde hair and a good line in sarcasm.

What with that and the chip in her head, is she ringing any bells for anyone else...?

I watched the first three episodes in a row on iPlayer this week. I hadn't bothered before because I thought it was for kids (Sarah Jane Adventures type of thing) but it's it's definitely not... I liked it, I think it helped that I watched them altogether though as it got the introductory/exposition first episode out of the way and straight into swearing, gore and nudity which I'm shallow enough to admit piques my interest Grin

I'm looking forward to the next episode.
