God I love Louis.

Anyone watching tonight? This is a follow up documentary (afaik) about Jimmy Saville. He made one in the 90s, so will be interesting what he has to say now.

Yes I did too windy it was awful, I remember watching the original doc and marvelling at how bonkers JS was, i never suspected anything like the reality though!
It was amazing to hear people who still don't believe it!

Difficult watch I agree, I love Louis but feel sickened by last doc to be honest and the fact he wasn't exposed, even if that's not fair

I thought it was brave of Louis to address his dealings with JS - he obviously felt he had failed by looking at him through a magnifying glass and reaching the conclusion only that he had a secret. Completely understandable that he was hoodwinked, though; the man had spent decades hiding his true nature from others.

Savile is creepy as fuck. He was popular before my time but I honestly cannot understand how he was so popular, what producer would possibly think he'd be an attractive addition to a show and why did the public lap it up? He's just vile to look at let alone his attitude and the way he talks to people. I'm just perplexed!
Poor Louis for having ever been in his vicinity
I do love Louis and am very creeped out watching this doc!

Saville was so bloody creepy in all those shots, especially how he thrust himself into women. I had no idea who he was when he died and had never seen anything with him in it- these clips were the first ones where I saw him (except for photos in newspapers), and he genuinely made my skin crawl. I am amazed how he was allowed to do what he was doing for so long and no-one thought it to be wrong!

Also am amazed/angered that Savile died loved and innocent. Gross. How did he die? I hope painfully. Glad he had no friends. Wonder what made him the way he was.

I have to say. I've lost respect for LT. He may not have known Savile was what he was but he was clearly aware of what a disgusting perv he was because there is so much footage of Louis standing nearby whilst Savile threw himself at young women..

Yet he was happy to call him a friend. It makes me sad that such behaviour was just accepted and seen as commonplace.

I have lost so much respect for Louis Theroux, he talked to women who told him that they had "sexual relations" (abused by) Savile at the age of 15 in 2000. He says now that if they had presented as victims he may have taken it further but they talked as friends of his. As if it were their fault for not telling him in the right way! I found the whole thing incredibly upsetting. So many in denial to this day. I have 8 and 10 year old DDs. I hope that they never feel that a man who they have just met grabbing their boobs and dropping their trousers is acceptable in any way.

I felt that this documentary was a way for Theroux to clear his conscience. He was young when he met Savile, but he was an intelligent informed reported who had a duty to act on information given to him. Clearly Savile was a monster. With so many interviewed in denial and still in awe of his fame and influence, I felt that the shear horror of Savile's far reaching abusive horrors were not fully realised.

Right, that's my piece said. Not the most eloquently written post but just had to have a forum to put that out there.

My Scientology movie is released on I think 6th October.

However, it is very limited viewings at limited cinemas and tickets are going quickly, especially to next Monday's when there is a live link to a Q&A session with Louis. (I have tickets!)

Jezza I don't think Louis Theroux has made any secret about feeling that he carries guilt for not seeing Savile for what he was, and about the girls he interviewed in 2000 that he puts the blame firmly on himself for not asking in the right way, not that he blames them at all, he blames himself.

The bits I found really disturbing were the woman from Stoke who didn't say she doesn't believe it and the woman who completely denies he did anything ever.

It's just awful viewing...

Like others I felt this was Louis Theroux's way of trying to clear his conscience.

I think it's important that he allowed some of the women who were abused to have a voice. However, I also agree with others that Louis had clearly been overlooking Saville's completely unacceptable behaviour towards women for years.

I have worked for my entire career with children who have suffered advise and the parents who have abused them so perhaps I am more alert to signs of asexual predators, but I was appalled at the way Louis needed hindsight to view the footage of Saville actions towards his work colleagues and other women they encountered together as problematic rather than just eccentric.

I feel there is a lesson on this documentary about how men can be utterly blinded to the everyday serial harassment faced by women and how women are socialised into putting up and shutting up.

I also thought it was remarkable that there were only women reporters, producers and colleagues interviewed. And when they were interviewed there was a string implication that they were somehow responsible for not stopping the abuse.

Surely event a pretend innocent like Louis theroux could see how young women at the beginning of their careers would struggle to bring down a powerful man who was serially abusing women left right and centre whilst having a direct line to Downing Street!

Sorry all of the above may be a little garbled, but the BBC and celebrity response to this case just utterly infuriates me. The more they try to look shocked and innocent the more they implicate their own willingness to look away from what was in plain sight

"Everything is obvious, once you know the answer". (Quote I heard recently about a totally unrelated subjected).

I think the clues were there, bit no-one joined up the dots.

Louis Theroux was definitely hoodwinked. jS was very media savvy, so knew what to portray. I don't think it was his fault that JS didn't caught.

Also, the letters from the girlfriends. There didn't seem anything in them to suggest that abuse had gone on, so how would LT know they were victims.

I felt sorry for the lady from the hospital who siad the spinal unit wouldn't be there without JS's fund raising. Obviously, JS had two,personalities, very charismatic and charming to some, and sleazy to others. She couldn't reconcile the two characteristics. Same for the PA who stays loyal despite being sacked. She must have known what was going on, but wrote it off as 'things were different in the past'.

It was an interesting documentary.

This! We were (and still are) supposed to put up and shut up because a) it's harmless and b) some girls supposedly like it (therefore if you don't you're a killjoy and a prude)

And also yes to the interviews directed at only women who supported him as if they were just as guilty.

Women support men in a patriarchy. That's how they get by. Even after being abused those two girls supported him.

Louis, who is so good at picking up things, didn't see that Savile having sex with 15 year olds was an abuse of power.

I normally like Louis but I'm troubled by the fact that he knew those two women who wrote to him were 15 when they 'started being JS girlfriends' - that in itself is illegal and morally wrong.

He, LT, did report the relationship with the 15 year-olds though but it was decided by those higher up not to take it further. That was always the problem with JS though - too many people who didn't want to rock the boat.

I watched the programme and like others found it so very distressing. The woman who had been abused by JS in the church - her story was heartbreaking. It was uncomfortable watching JS on film, knowing what we now know. I felt for LT and thought he did the best he could in both documentaries.
