We're looking for something to watch in the summer doldrums.

Loved the West Wing (the all time great, viewed several times) but have also enjoyed House of Cards, Scandal (schlocky but addictive), and, on the recommendation of people on here, Madam Secretary.

Suggestions, please, for similar!

I am a box set addict.

Utopia (Channel 4)

Not all in the political drama genre (only VEEP, in fact) - but they're some of my favourites.

I love sport, does that mean I can't watch box sets too?

I suggest you invest in Netflix, it'll see you through this summer and the next and the next.

The Good Wife

Series I have really enjoyed are
The Americans
The Bridge
Breaking Bad
All on either Netflix or Amazon

Thanks so much. Have seen and enjoyed some of those - the brilliant Good Wife, the Bridge, Luther, Elementary.
Dexter seems popular - all I know is that main character is a serial killer, but I guess there's more to it than that! The Americans sounds worth checking out too.
Any more?

Oh and have seen VEEP.

I have had a binge on British TV recently: Happy Valley, Humans, Grantchester, Shetland.

No Offence (if you missed it)
The Newsroom (if on anything)
We are finally succumbing to game of thrones, amazing
The Wire (did not think it would be my thing at all)

I only started watching Game of Thrones in april Smooshface, couldn't believe I waited so long, it's fantastic grin

I watched The Practice on box set, it's good, no ER but not bad.

Oh yeah ER, if you can find it smile

Glad someone mentioned The Wire. After much deliberation, its my first ever boxset. I'm downloading it now as we've finally got good wifi.

Cant wait to get the kids to bedgrin.

Also keeping an eye on other suggestions. I fear i may never leave the sofa again.
