Yes! I've got it on at work. Is it just me or is it really, really creepy in places? It's that kind of Return of the Native vibe it's got, with added dramatic soundtrack.

Also, I'm really disappointed that it's not a kind of Victorian ghostbusters.

I also just found this: www.radiotimes.com/news/2016-06-17/my-day-on-the-haunted-set-of-the-living-and-the-dead

And anyone who's not watching it yet: it's worth it for the bit where Colin Morgan gets his kit off. Grin

Started watching it last night, thought it was good if standard ghosty stuff but then they threw a curveball at the end of ep 1 and now I'm hooked! Colin Morgan is a bit of alright too...

Just started watching episode 2. Really enjoying it so far. Especially keen on the background music, which is a first for me.

I don't think I understand what's going on... Not terribly good at following plots.

Halfway through the second one - really enjoying it so far! Quite creepy in places, and I love the reveal of what his dead son's drawings were of, at the end of the first episode!

And Colin Morgan is seriously attractive. He's really filled out since Merlin.

Is it in TV or only on iplayer?

On TV!

YY to Colin Morgan. Didn't think much of him in his Merlin days but now he looks like a cross between Cillian Murphy and Ben Whishaw but, respectively, less sinister and less fey!

I'm enjoying it although got a shock when they mentioned a village very close to my parents house. Family legend has it that my great-grandad saw a few gosts round there always on his way back home from the pub for some reason. Did CM see a woman with an iPad and car headlights or have I misunderstood? He looks much better with a beard.

Green yeah he did. I also found out it's written or created or something by the people who did Life on Mars so I'm guessing that's where the curveball comes in!

Watched the first episode on IPlayer last night - loved it.

2 questions: Does anyone know if this is based on a book(s) or is it an original story? And who does the music? It was excellent!

Another question: Is this suitable for a 14 yr old dd? She enjoyed The Woman in Black, Jaws, Alien so not a wuss - but dont want to encourage her to watch anything to disturbing.

I've only seen 1 episode so far but would say it's far less scary than the Woman in Black. It's quite dreamy/spooky rather than out and out terrifying iyswim.

Swallowswift if she's watched all those she will be fine with this. No spoilers but it's fascinating as well as spooky but not gory. My favourite sort of supernatural drama, keeps you on the edge of your seat in places, also made me cry in one part. Not a gore fan so I love it.

Just finished episode 6 - bit of a cliffhanger there!

Not sure I loved the resolution, quite sad. Also, I'm not sure it answered all of my questions. Are we allowed to post spoilers in this thread?

Did we ever find out what his first wife died of? I was assuming a broken heart because of Gabriel's death, but then I wondered if she'd died in childbirth.

Is this on normal TV as well? Which night? I don't know how I missed it, as it sounds just my sort of thing!

ProfYaffle · 21/06/2016 19:07

It's on BBC1 from next Tuesday but the whole series is available on Iplayer now.

Just watched the first episode. What was that ending all about!!?? A bit like The Others...
Starling - they mention that when CM's wife died Gabriel went to live with his grandmother, so probably childbirth or soon after, in any case the mother died before Gabriel

I just binge watched the whole thing yesterday, mostly loved it. YY to the sad resolution. I don't want to give spoilers so am just going to use the language from a PP, and say that actually didn't think it needed the 'The Others' bit, it would have worked beautifully without, and had more potential for another series.
