Heard about a drama called The Five coming to sky 1 soon on radio 2 this morning. It's written by Harlen Coban (the thriller novelist)
It's about a group of friends haunted by their teenage years when when of their little brothers went missing in their care...
I thought it sounded great!!'SmileSmile

Yes, I'm looking forward to it, it's on at 9 tonight on Sky 1. I saw a preview yesterday and it looked good

I'm watching it now - seems very good but creepy & every mothers worst nightmare.

Loved it. It's got me gripped right from the off.

But but but ... Just watched the first one.

Why does the policeman tell all his friends about the highly confidential DNA finding, including pru, who he's not seen for 20 years??

Who did the shelter manager shoot at the end?

Who us the black woman with the birthmark? Was she trafficked with other women for the sex trade?

Too many unanswered questions for me at the moment.

I've just watched this on Catch Up.
I thought it had it's moments but there were some odd bits.
I don't understand why the woman who escaped from the record producer man was picked up by the social worker guy.

The record producer man? With the mad ryes? Who was he?

I assumed he maybe kept an eye out for runaways Confused but if he's a killer, he's clearly not all on the side of the gods...

CocktailQueen · 16/04/2016 22:30

Oh, Ffs, eyes not ryes! Why does the iPad want to change eyes to ryes?!

Report
Pipbin · 16/04/2016 22:30

Also. does no one go to work except the detective?

And, why did Brittney not go to the police when she escaped the record producer?

Pipbin · 16/04/2016 22:33

You need to get your iPad to forget learned words.

The whole thing with tricking their way into the offices by pretending to be exterminators was like a poor version of Better Call Saul or Beverly Hill Cop.

CocktailQueen · 16/04/2016 22:45

I'm pretty sure I have never typed ryes deliberately on the iPad - how do I make it forget words?

Exterminators? In the first programme??

Pipbin · 16/04/2016 23:38

Ah, that might have been the second one. It was on straight after.

I found it a bit confusing and far fetched. But at the same time I also found the flashback bits quick traumatic to watch. Especially the opening first few minutes where he's begging not to go home on his own. And the mother looking out the window. Maybe it's because I have a 13yr old DS and a 5yr old DS and the little one worships his big brother.

Just catching up now when I should be doing a million things other than watching TV Michael Moloney doesn't look nearly old enough to be the dad of the brothers!

I'd expected this to be American, given the Harlan Coben thing. Pleasantly surprised to find it's English.

Thanks, pipbin!

Yes, it's weird.

I predicted the creepy music guy keeping the women in his 'cellar' though - I knew what the soundproof room was for. horrible when they were all screaming to be heard. But at least the policeman is suspicious and will go back...

I don't feel 'sucked in' or like I care much for any of the characters yet...

That's a good point Cocktail, I don't feel sucked into the characters yet either, other than for the mother.

Got quite angry at it when the detective told the music producer everything about the case, and how careless of his friends to hand out pictures of a dead lady... Also the friend who owns the shelter is very odd

I had forgotten all about it until this popped up in TIO.
That's not good really. I clearly don't care.

Am quite enjoying it.
Made me jump when they found the girls.

Just watched episodes 3 and 4.

I like the actual plot but so much other stuff makes no sense.
Why would student files by in an unlocked file?
Would a doctor really answer a phone during a consultation?
Why was the policeman walking to his car with a cup of coffee in his hand only to throw it away?
Why did Pru never tell anyone about chasing Jesse?
Who is looking after Pru's daughter while she gads about?
Why does no one seem to go to work other than the policeman?

All that aside I am very interested in the plot. Slade is involved some how. I think he was the 'gentle man'.

I've just watched the second episode. Episode one did start off quite promisingly, but then the plot seemed to jump and it all went a bit weird. Why did they not take the rescued girl (Gemma) straight to the police? Seems quite unbelievable really, characters don't seem real and the plot is creaky.

There are so many good dramas out there that I don't think I'll waste more time on this. You would think respected actors like Geraldine James and Michael Maloney would be a bit more picky, really.

Report
NadiaWadia · 24/04/2016 05:28

Exactly Pipbin why did the rescued girls not go/be taken to the police? Like in the recent BBC drama 'Thirteen' which was so much better. This is completely unrealistic. And why didn't Gemma's parents say anything about that, or seem particularly surprised when their daughter suddenly reappears after five years? Wouldn't the press have got involved too? It's all ridiculous.
