Hello thread 34! Just marking my place.

Evening. Trying to discuss the refugee crisis with two eldely Nowegian ladies having indulged in cava and rioja was a step too far tonight. When they talked about German occupation during WW2, I think I got some of my facts mixed up. Definitely blaming the alcohol.

Weather ok (warmer than home) but not brilliant. Today involved quite a lot of shopping. My purse took quite a hit.

I could have done with your influence Rhubarb on the WW2 facts!

Bless you Ilove but my knowledge of Norway in WW2 is a bit limited to The Heroes of Telemark and that Norwegian drama The Saboteurs about the same incident. In my mind it's all Kirk Douglas, jumpers, a lot of snow and heavy water. I realise that hugely misrepresents what must have happened there. I expect they had a horrible time but they had a brave resistance too. I'm glad it wasn't my influence on the drink front you needed because I'm a terrible lightweight!

Just spent a lovely evening at the Bath theatre enjoying Tom Chambers in Private Lives. In the words of Noel Coward it was all rather lovely!
rhu those WW2 Norwegian movies are classics... In my head I always feel I could have been one of those female resistant fighters...just love the slacks and gaberdine anoraks..sad I know!
Glad to see we have made thread 34!

Oooh I liked Tom Chambers in Holby! When he won Strictly, I won money on him too.

The two Norwegian ladies last night had lived through the war. The booze had fuddled my brain though (I'm a lightweight too Rhubarb) and I had said Spain was neutral during the war when in fact Franco and Hitler were allies of a sort. The cava was my undoing there.

Better looking weather for us today, hurray!

Morning all Smile haven't posted for few days and thought I'd lost you all.
Had a bit of a nightmare few days. DS has chicken pox but late Monday night started vomiting again it was thought he inhaled some. Had some tests done Monday night/tues morning and think he's ok just been left with a horrid cough. Luckily my parents are taking him for me so can work but feel like a zombie. Feel bad for him he's pickled in spots too!
Have my resus training today so hoping I might get paired with some nice doctor to do mouth to mouth/chest compressions together, that's if I can keep my eyes open.
Hope your having a lovely holiday ilove Smile
Hope your feeling better kelly and you are able to go down to Surrey.
Have a good day all.

Morning all.

Thanks rhu.

Ah poor you and DS mads. Mine was really young when they got chicken pox plus all 3 had it at the same time. Shock At least it gets it out of the way. Ooh resus training sounds fun! Yes let's hope you get a lovely doctor to practice on.

Talking of Norway and WW2, my only knowledge is I'm named after the WW2 Battleship that Lord Mountbatten was the captain of. It was part of thr Battke of Norway. The WW2 film 'In Which We Served' was based on the same ship but it was renamed the Tippin or some such for the film. But yes that's my claim to fame. My Dad has always been a huge WW2 buff.

Not long until I get the boys so must crack on with jobs. Lucky meeee.

In which we serve is one of my favourite war films Kelly, I can practically hear John Mills singing roll out the barrel.

As long as you didn't have to practice your mouth to mouth on someone with halitosis mads.

What mads? Ah gutting. Unless you close your eyes and think of Jamie Fraser Grin. Some ladies went to meet him and the lady who plays Claire in RL in London as they were doing a meet and greet and they said he was lovely and tall and smelt gorgeous. Yum!

Right. This is for anyone who's interested in watching S2 of OL in April. I've just been on the phone to Amazon. Basically you dont need to pay £79.00 per year subscription if you don't want to. Which I Def dont! So you ring Amazon on 0800 4961369 and they check if you're eligible for a months free trial
of Amazon Prime (which I'm doing to watch first 4 episodes) and then if you're eligible, when the series starts on April 10th, you download the Amazon app onto either Kindle Fire or your laptop or PS4 if you've got it and then click onto free monthly trial. At the end of that trial, you cancel it online and then you can pay per episode (which I'm doing) and it costs about £2-£3.

Sorry if that sounds confusing but I'm doing 2 jobs at once. Confused

Hello to the new post!!!
mads what a nightmare with the pox, my poor boys had it so bad, but at least I know there is no chance of them having it again.

We've just had one of DH mates over to look at our bathroom, he doesn't speak a great deal of English and now I'm getting slightly worried. He is telling us we need a new boiler and I have £££ rattling around in my brain. Eekkkk.

Any news on the funeral kelly

X

Not yet rich. My Aunt said she would call my parents in a couple of days time. I wrote in her sympathy card about coming down for the funeral. I'll ring her day after tomorrow if weve not heard anything.

Boilers are so expensive rich. We had to get a new one last year!!

Maddie what a rough start to your return to work you've had. Hope mini-mad is coping ok with his spots. At least he won't remember having them. I was 11 when I had them snd still have a dent in my nose where I knocked the scab off.

Did you get to do the kiss of life with a handsome doctor?

Had a lovely day out in Valldemossa on the local bus. Worked out about £3 each return. Great views and lovely flowers.

Evening all! Lovely pics Ilove. I once went to Lisbon in February and weather wise it was probably a bit like Majorca as in warmer and sunnier than here but not exactly summery.

Hi speighty keep hanging on for OG2 - it's on its way!!

Sorry to hear about the Chicken Pox Mads. All three of mine got it at the same time but DS - the last one to break out - seemed to get a double dose and ended up in hospital when he was nine months old. It was all precautionary and he was fine but he sure had a lot of spots! Generally they don't seem to bothered by it or only a bit under the weather for a day or two and the bounce back.

Interesting to hear about the origins of your name Kelly. I like 'In which we serve' as well. Noel Coward's voice is one in a million - his short clipped accent - and I like to joke that John Mills won the war because he must have been in so many war films during the 1950's and every branch of the services. I saw 'The Cruel Sea' a couple of weeks ago when it was on and that's also a great film and book about the navy in WW2. If I have one beef about films of that era though its the way they cast upper class actors in lower class roles and you can really hear them putting on the cor blimey to sound working class just as you can hear the upper class characters speak in that curious clipped way - I think French and Saunders or Victoria Wood did a sketch based on that which is quite funny.

Just been to parents evening for DD and DS and it was the usual wandering back and forth from place to place and queuing for teachers running late. Mind you I wouldn't swap places with them - not an easy job in this day and age and they all showed such interest and enthusiasm in spite of how boring it probably is to sit there for three hours repeating themselves to parents like us!

Thanks all Flowers although horrible I'm not so much worried about the chicken pox more the vomit inhalation which frightened us to death. Hopefully on the mend now but refusing to eat which is a bit rubbish. Looks like I have no childcare tomorrow as can't go to nursery so having to use crisis (unpaid) leave. Will be nice to be home with him as have been worried at work the last couple of days.

No hot doctors ilove or halitosis sufferers pix just a plastic mannequin thing, which wasn't doing anything for me Wink

kelly Ive watched a few things on Amazon on my tablet that way (pay per episode) and its no bother at all. Streaming is fine and we only have standard internet not superfast.

Photos look really lovely ilove glad you are getting some sun.

wow what an evening ... came out of parent evening at school and picked up emergency voicemail from my Mum, left lunchtime, who had received call from doctors saying she needed to get to the hospital urgently as she might need a pacemaker... so have now spent the rest of the evening trying to track down my sister and Mum to find out what is going on, and then contacting the rest of the family to update. so much for a quiet evening!

Maddie Glad to hear little one is on the mend. When DS had chicken pox I showed ignorance and explained I thought he had been bitten. child-minder very promptly put me right and then it was the joys of having to sort alternative childcare - grandma! the joy of being a working mum!! Sorry to hear no nice doctor or halitosis, but I expect there was that lovely taste of the antiseptic wipe on the rubber dummy - yuk!!

ilove those pictures are enough to being out the green eyed monster. Hope you are enjoying your break!

Sorry to hear about the boiler rich we had to do ours eighteen months ago - one of those unnecessary evils in a house of a certain age and yes a bit a £££ moment!

I love the Noel coward way of speaking rhub it really typifies a certain period in time. unfortunately Tom Chambers was slightly looser in his pronunciation! with you all in enjoying those movies!
