That blue porch is hideous

It really is vile isn't it!

Yes it is. He hates it!
Inside looks quite good though.

It is a bloody monstrosity! Imagine coming out of your front door only to discover your neighbours have put a big blue box on the front

It looks like some sort of temporary structure they put around the entrance to office buildings when they are doing building work.

I like the inside, thought the inside of the other house was very odd and didn't really work

And what is it with having everything open plan? Do people not realise that it means that if one person wants to watch TV then everyone else in the entire downstairs will be able to hear it and not be able to escape?

Is that even allowed? If it is, it shouldn't be. I do love this programme though.

I live in a conservation area ( in a city) would love to see the neighbours face if I built a big blue thing outside!

It really was awful. They didn't dwell on it for long before showing the rest of the house. And we didn't see the inside of it either.

Every week I watch this programme aghast at the architects oohing and aaahing over 'designs' that look utter shit. The blue porch looked bloody awful!

Report

I thought the woman architect was pretty bad, it was obvious that they couldn't do anything for £10k, they finished almost 3x over budget.

Report
mangofizz · 02/03/2016 21:18

I was surprised it was allowed too, I thought that kind of thing had to be 'in keeping' with the existing house/houses on the street?!

Report
nancy75 · 02/03/2016 21:19

Maybe the neighbours think it's just cladding they have put up to protect the building work and don't realise it is the actual porch!

Not a fan of open plan and I wasn't keen on the inlaid bench thing. Looked a bit like one of those beds with with all the cupboards round.

Yes and £24k is a lot of money to have what looked like a dirt floor

GingerCuddleMonsterThe2nd · 02/03/2016 21:29

The blue porch was ghastly! The open plan was "too open". The kitchen for 24k looked unfinished. It was all just awful.

That blue porch was awful!

I could sum up this series as "double height space with bed mezzanine; roof lights and designs not having a hope in hell of coming in on budget despite a visit to some kind of wholesaler of which there are similar all over the country".

I did quite enjoy last nights if only to see Piers'' face as the Walsall family disregarded his plans (though I think they were a bit bonkers)

I do think there is a lot of bending the truth re costs on these programmes. We were watching 'ugly house to lovely house' last night where they used plywood to keep the cost of a floor down yet it took 2 weeks to lay. The cost of the carpenter would far outweigh the cost of buying a laminate floor etc not to mention that plywood is not durable so would prob need replacing sooner. I think a lot of services are given for free.

I just watched 'Ugly House' too. Basically it's a complete copycat of 100k House, isnt it? Except with Geordie vowels Hmm

I had to laugh at the utter horror on Piers's face when he realised that the Walsall couple had completely ignored everything he said. You could tell right from the off that they had NO intention of deviating from their own plans just knock absolutely everything down and create a gigantic empty box

Sorry, not Geordie vowels. Mackem vowels then. Grin

Honeyandfizz · 11/03/2016 19:02

Yes the Walsall couple were classic (I say this as somebody who grew up in Walsall), they hadn't got a shred of intention of listening to him and I'm surprised they aired it tbh Confused

I'm surprised Piers bothered going back too, they must be short of participants and still have to make a certain amount of programmes.

Did anyone see the episode of 100k house (think the couple were called Julie and Richard) where they had a huge colourful peacock on the wall - one of their children's drawings blown up onto vinyl or something? Would love to do that for my DD's room. Anyone know how you can find out where they go / who the suppliers are?
