Things haven't been the same since the Killing, recommendations please!

Just wondering if anyone might have any TV recommendations? I haven't really enjoyed anything since I finished The Killing (Danish version).

I'd like something bleak and intriguing, preferably crime drama/thriller or gritty at least. Also like a good documentary but have watched a lot of the crime ones.

As well as the Killing I really liked the Bridge, the Returned, Top of the Lake, Hinterland, True Detective (season 1, haven't seen 2). I tried a few episodes of Luther recently but found it too fast paced and a bit silly, though it was ok I don't think I'll carry on.

I was thinking the Fall, Spiral, Borgen, Those Who Kill if they are any good?

I miss Sarah Lund... and Borch (swoon).

Have you been watching Deutsland 83? It's still running but episodes to date are on catch up - All4. Fantastic.

Lilyhammer on Netflix is Norwegian/USA mainly in 2 languages. Very Scandinavian though it's a comedy/drama.

I just had to look up Deutschland 83 as I'd never heard of it but it sounds quite good so I'm adding that to the list!

May give Lilyhammer a look too, sounds a bit different.

Thanks Smile

Fargo 1&2 - the tv series not the movie. Brilliant

Borgen is great. It isn't particularly gritty but is very grippy.

I wouldn't bother with Those Who Kill. It's a pretty run of the mill police drama, the kind that ITV make starring Robson Green. Except it's in Danish.

The lovely Lars Mikkelsen (Troels Hartmann) is in it though.

The first series of The Fall was great. The second series notably less great.

The first series (and only the first) of Damages is fantastic. Manhattan based law firm thriller. I was glued to my seat.

The Jinx documentary series is great if you haven't seen it.

I loved Spiral and agree about Deutschland 83, both had some plot holes but were gripping and gritty, and Deutschland 83 has the advantage of the fab 80s sound track as well.

The 80s soundtrack has made me even more keen!

Oh dear ITV/Robson Green standard doesn't sound very appealing might leave that one then Grin

The Jinx documentary is one of that genre I haven't actually seen, couldn't find it on Netflix so will see if I can find it elsewhere.

American Crime and Damages I haven't come across either so will look into those. I keep meaning to watch Fargo but DP says he isn't keen, until I say I'm going to start it, then he gets all flustered because he does want to watch it at some point and can I wait until he does so we can watch it together Hmm

Absolutely love Spiral - great characters - and also Borgen.

Also thought that The Tunnel - the English/French version of the Bridge - was pretty good. Think a second series of that coming soon.

And don't forget Happy Valley, second series, starting next week.

Second series of The Tunnel? Excited.

I loved Borgen! I know what you mean. Once you have seen a fabulous Nordic drama, other things on TV pale.

I started to watch Jordskott but it didn't really grab me. A bit too weird.

I have 1864 to watch too. Nothing can beat The Killing or The Bridge.

Spin is good. If you like Spiral then it is worth a watch.

Also Arne Dahl.

I love everything you have mentioned (I am obsessed with the Bridge), Damages, brilliant (first series and second at a push) and the Fall would be my recommendations. Does anyone know if Happy Valley is available on any streaming services as we missed it and I have heard good things.
