Apparently this started last Friday on Amazon. I didn't see any advertising for it and only found out because I googled to see when the next series started Sad

Has anyone seen the first episode? I really want to know if it is worth restarting my Prime membership or if I should just wait until it airs on tv?

I saw an advert for it on Amazon but I wasn't sure when it was starting. Will definitely be watching it. We have prime though.

I'd not seen any advertising either, really strange. I'll certainly be watching and shall report back!

Is anyone in your house eligible for the free Prime trial? Then you could wait a few weeks to start it, until nearly all the episodes are available?

The previous series premiered on Amazon but was eventually shown on the Beeb; maybe they're doing the same thing again?

Is Matthew Macfadyen in this series?

Looks great from the trailer!

MM there!

Yay! I love Matthew.

It's so good, although I have to say the last series was slightly less gritty-feeling and atmospheric than previous
ones.

What I can't remember-was there ever a resolution about the Jedediah Shine(?) story?

Wonder if the Beeb will also show this series?

Theres to be a 5th as well!

Oh I love this show but don't have Prime sadly.

I'm all about Inspector Drake.

I'm worried that his marriage to Rose will go tits up............

He's a sensitive soul, he won't take it well.

I saw it - two hours long, so you'd get your money's worth. Not sure if all the episodes are going to be that length though.

I really enjoyed it, but then I'm a big fan. It's set in 1897, so a couple of years after series 3 and quite a lot has changed (new police station with a telephone!!). Oh, and Neville Longbottom's in it, which makes it worth the price of admission alone Wink.

I'll be upset if Drake and Rose split up. They have to stay together.

Deborah Goren is back in this series, but I don't see her with Reid - he needs a woman with a sense of humour, I think. Actually loved the episode with Laura Haddock as the society wife in the last series - thought they had great chemistry together, if only things could have played out differently.

I am officially flabbergasted by the apparent Internet silence re this new series of Ripper Street. I only came upon it by chance, despite watching series 3 on amazon prime. It's like, they've spent bajillions on this new series but they aren't arsed if anybody actually watches it?

Also, it didn't appear on any of the 'top telly roundups' in December, even those that covered streaming channels. This despite arguably being the best quality drama to come from the BBC / amazon in recent years.

OK, I've watched the opening episode : be warned, it's very long! It's bloody brilliant, but with a very strong sense of not playing all its cards at once. I will admit that the primary plot (involving the murder of a Muslim man, and subsequent heavy liberal emphasis on prejudice etc) didn't massively grab me. I hope next week we get fresh cases.

I found some aspects of the plot hard to follow, and some of the dialogue hard to tune into.

The writers have painted themselves into a corner yet again by having our three amigos very emphatically going their own ways at the end of the last series. Maybe they could not do this again, as it's wearying having to force them through what is essentially an extended 'reunion montage' at the start of each new series.

Leman Street and the wonderful ginger desk sergeant are no more :(. Action is now centred at the all new headquarters, and for die hards this feels like a loss. I'm hoping the new gaff will grow on me, and as a bonus we get Neville Longbottom as a young sarge obviously going places.

We get David Thewlis too, but he hasn't turned up yet.

We get Reid in a fairly shocking sex scene!!

And we get a less annoying Matilda Reid, now becoming a character in her own right.

Jackson has changed, but who's bluffing who?

Drake is the guvnor now, and well he deserves it.

The last five minutes will give you the biggest WTF of 2016 :)

Can't wait to see next week's episode. Really want to see new characters, particularly female ones. If only they could have Nancy from Dickensian, she's superb.

It will get darker...

Yes a very welcome return from Deborah Goran. Shame Daddy Pig isn't in it, he's in everything else just now.

No ginger desk sergeant! Artherton (?)Shock Shock

Arterton I think? I hope he turns up somewhere along the line, it's not the same without him :(

I agree that the lack of publicity from Amazon is odd. The BBC were the same when they 'owned' it too.

Thank You for the replies. I renewed Prime Video in the end, I decided I couldn't wait months for new Drake, I have a bit of a thing for him, although MM is good too, obviously.

Only watched a bit so far, but I am going to settle down this evening and watch it properly, in peace Smile

I've got about 30 mins in but finding it hard going as lines are murmured a lot and dialogue seems a bit stilted.
Nice to see Neville though!

Oh the dialogue is my favourite thing about Ripper Street.

Oh, I'll really miss Leman Street and the ginger desk sergeant Sad

I can't remember the Jebediah Shine case very well at all, let alone the way it ended, sorry.

I love the dialogue too; really rich and sounds (to an amateur ear anyway) of the period.

Frank Gallagher? from Shameless is in it too, in a Fagin type role. I think he's quite good, wasn't really sure what he was on about mostly :) Full length velvet housecoat etc.
