Heads up for series 4 starting tonight, hooray. But it clashes with War and Peace Sad. Dilemma.

Looking forward! Am I right in thinking end of last series his boss and possible bad guy got shot and he was jailed? The counsellor who had abused at care home was going kill the two policemen but they got in first? Something like that seems ages and ages ago!

The Great GAtsby rip off plot is annoying me as a side distraction!

Music we watched as a family and having eldest and youngest ( both A level English ) drawing all the exact character parallels like it was a blooming essay topic was very annoying!

Will have to watch again without them!

Can't remember for the life of me exactly what happened at end of last series to land Endeavour in jail and Thursday shot. Yes Gatsby rip-off bit annoying and distracting.

Agree re Great Gatsby. Not sure if it's supposed to be obvious and is a homage or if C4 don't think its audience reads. Sun eve TV is good again though with this, the German thing and war and Peace. Wish they'd spread them out a bit though. Fri is usually a bit rubbish.

Had glass of wine, closed my eyes in the adverts and woke up very confused as seemed to have been some character swaps etc...
Will have to watch end again/ read summary!!

I think it's interesting that Morse seems to have become slightly more confident and less socially awkward; also that other colleagues seem to have become more accepting and caring of him. I think that's the right development, as he would need that in order to progress through the police force.

It must be slightly frustrating to be a scriptwriter for this programme, as they can never build up any suspense about whether he's survived an injury or is going to be booted out of the force.

I'm glad that Roger Allam is still around.

Having said that, though, I was irresistibly reminded of the bit in Sherlock when Holmes said "It's never twins".

So glad this is back, I love it.

I really think Shaun Evans is excellent as a young Morse, he has all the right mannerisms and is plausible as a young John Thaw.

It must be so hard for the writers though, as we all know he never has romantic success.

I was very pleased that Thursday was back too - really thought he was going to die because in the books it talks about a different policeman as his mentor.

This is so much better than Lewis. If Lewis does come back for another series they have given them a plot though - 50 years on from last night's episode must be about now, so the files from the case that put Morse in prison will be allowed to be opened.

First time I have watched this- was recommended as I lurves a crime drama.

Sorry thought it looked very pretty but was absolute codswallop.

First and last time I shall watch. And I own the Morse box set.
I much prefer Lewis, in Lewis the link to Morse seems more real than Young Morse does, oddly.

If Lewis has totally retired, I want a new series called Hathaway.

I don't want a series called Hathaway because I am totally sick of the actor moaning between each series that he is going to leave.

Although if they do one I will obviously watch it and love it.

ThenLater - have you watched the earlier episodes of Endeavour? The link between this and Morse is very strong. All the characters from Morse are in it.

I hope the Gatsby reference was supposed to be obvious!! I felt like I was being slapped in the face with it old sport. Love the Sherlock reference to the twins!! I liked it , but I love Shauan Evans so may be a bit biased....

I love Shaun Evans in anything and think he's great as Morse. I liked the original Inspector Morse series with John Thaw and I think Shaun has his mannerisms and way of speaking down really well.
I think Thursday's great too, the way he refers to his wife as Mrs Thursday to his colleagues! ( the bloater paste didn't sound great though 😝)

Signing in. I seem to have developed an absolutely massive crush on Shaun Evans as Morse. Think he's brilliant.

Thought this week's was brilliant. Nice to see John Thaw's daughter in it again too.

DH watches it
When the woman asked for him to check her house (and unzip her dress) I said to DH "The John Thaw Morse would've been iin there like lightening Grin " but this actor is more refined and gentle whereas I always see John Thaw as The Sweeny (but I'll mind bleach "Home to Roost" )

That's the interesting thing about this series: the older Morse would have dealt with the zip thing quite easily: what we are seeing is his younger self developing the facility to do so. Already in this series he's noticeably more confident and better able to deal with other people.
