Anyone watching this? Always wish they would do these things in Old English & Old Norse with subtitles. Matthew Mcfadyen's a bit posh for it. And what was the boy in?

No idea what to expect so hopefully it'll be good!

I'll give it a go, if I can hear over DH snoring Angry

The boy is Dr Fosters son. He's been busy!

Ah yes of course! And Si Hairy Biker appears to be leading the Viking contingent..

This is not going to end well is it?

Came here to see what people thought about this. Grin

Well Hairy Biker Viking is dead, Matthew M is dead, Dr Foster's son has grown up, it's all moving rather fast.

The blond lad that nearly raped the ginger girl makes me think of Malfoy.

It will be interesting to see which side Utred (or however you spell it) will end up on

Don't like the wailing on the soundtrack though. Reminds me of that Return to Innocence song from the 90s!

I am confused but that doesn't take ,ugh to be honest

Was OK. Could do with more sexy Vikings. I suggest Charlie Hunnam.

The wailing is a bit much. All the vikings are dead apart from the two women and the one-eyed person? Now all they need to do is to kill all the Saxons next episode and we'll be done. Hmm

I'm thinking of the Hairy Biker viking as the Brian Blessed viking, for some reason ...

Thought it was okay overall. Si King did a Sean Bean and Utred(sp?) seems like a poor man's Jon Snow.
I will probably watch the whole series, even if I found it as grey and beige as the light filtering, mainly to see if One-Eye and his dad get their comeuppance.

Report
CoffeeAndOranges · 22/10/2015 22:47

And that 'severed head ' that Utred produced from under his cloak looked remarkably light - it flew up in the air like the first time I lifted a plastic pint glass!

But I will watch next week to see where it goes (the plot not the severed head!)

I suspect the story will move on to the Saxons' lair in Wessex.

Quite enjoyed it. Does seem to be a watered down version of the Vikings series but I will stick with it. Glad Mathew M has gone though that accent just didn't fit

Seems ok. Will see how it goes. Been watching Vikings recently, so i'd say its not bloody enough for my liking Grin

What did everyone think of it tonight? I really enjoyed it..think the Kings brother at the end deliberately kept utred away to protect him

It's our new family viewing thing - us and teen boys. It's okay, I'm warming to it. We went to see Macbeth the other week and it used the beach at Bamburgh too so I keep expecting the witches to show up :)

I wish I knew more about history! Was Wessex the only non-Dane controlled kingdom at one time?

Are the Danes Vikings? Blush

Report
myotherusernameisbetter · 29/10/2015 22:51

It's sort of based on what they think really happened, but as there wasn't a lot written in those days, there are a lot of assumptions - I'm Scottish so we didn't cover any of this stuff and I haven't made any effort to find out as an adult. I don't think the Vikings were from a particular country - they were more a race so I think some Danes were vikings but not all Vikings are danes?

Seems that Viking is a verb - as in "to go viking" (rape and pillage etc)

Throughout Western Europe, the term ‘Danes’ was universally used to describe the raiders from Denmark and Norway. By the 10th century the Danes were feared throughout Europe.
