I've never actually watched it, but I do fancy giving it a go. Do I have to watch it from the first series to "get it?" Smile

I love it! Love MC he is brilliant. Hurry back Louisa. I know (as in will say hi in the street) John Marquez who plays the policeman, our kids used to be in the same class at school. He is nothing like his character. Is this the last series?

I hope not. However it is one of those programmes that you can watch again and again on repeat. It's cosy TV!

Glad it is back, and love the way most of the original cast are still there! Preferred the first auntie though........

I heard it is to be the last series so I am looking for a seriously happy ending! There seemed to be quite a point made of Martin falling down the stairs and banging his head so I was hoping this was going to magically give him a bit of a personality transplant so he could start being nice to Louisa.

We had many childhood holidays in Port Isaac so I find it very comforting to watch.

I'd only just realised about the auntie swap - it was an older, larger lady who was rather wonderful, and yes replaced with a quite different actress who one doesn't warm to as much. Shame.

I think the new aunt is supposed to be Stephanie Cole's sister isn't she?

Report
LeChien · 16/09/2015 12:21

The aunt (Stephanie Cole) died, the thin aunt is her sister I think, so no dodgy actor replacing.

I love Doc Martin, but I find the relationship between him and his wife irritating and tedious. I much preferred last week's episode when it featured unlikely medical dramas.

CrapBag · 16/09/2015 12:23

Oh I like Ruth. It's nice that there are a couple of relatives that care about Martin.

I love him, I think he's brilliant. Always has me laughing. I think we are seeing a softer side to him personally though. The therapy, admitting he doesn't want to lose his wife, moving out for her. The way his parents were with him, it's not surprising he is the way he is. I loved his little speech to the therapist about how she will diagnose him with attachment disorder.

OverScentedFanjo · 16/09/2015 12:31

Auntie Joan was a better fit, but Stephanie Coles must have had enough of DM and wanted out.

Bit confusing as there have been at least two series with the baby in and he is still a baby. He seems not to be ageing in the same way as the adults.

Report
LeChien · 16/09/2015 13:13

From a personal point of view, I hate the reference to attachment disorder, because it is such a common, unhelpful misdiagnosis instead of ASD.
Given his family background, it is very possible that he has ASD and it has run through his family.
I don't think programs like this should make casual mentions like this.

I agree that the whole Martin/Louisa thing is now pretty tedious. He couldn't even say he was glad to see her. I hope the therapy pays dividends.
