How can I get ITV player and 4OD on my new LG smart TV?

Anyone have any ideas how to get ITV player and 4OD on an LG smart TV? It comes with a BBCiplayer app and a 5 on demand app but not the other two. Any ideas how I can download the apps?

Thanks.

I would like to know too, have the same TV, I can't even get the installed apps working!

I don't think you can. It might be to do with licensing. Please correct me if I'm wrong though because I would love to get them on my smart TV!

Damn! I knew there was a reason we were going to get a Samsung as they have all the catch up options.

Presumably I can do it if I go in via the ITV player website?

Do you mean via the Internet? Nah, tried it. Didn't work.

I had a Samsung before, wish I'd got one this time too. Do you find the guide and channel change very slow? Oh, I got the apps installed working ok now! I've just tried to install ITV player and it says 'not supported by this device'. Maybe you have to have something like Nowtv??

We have NOWTV and stream films and some sky channels through it. Still can't get itv player or 4OD though!

Love, is Nowtv a one off payment? I don't want any subscription.

Tesco seems a reasonable price for a nowtv box. There's also Chromecast or firetv or appletv, I think they all have the main catchup channels.

This article might be useful.

Thank for that RealHuman.

NOWTV is monthly payments no upfront fee. The cost depends on what you want e.g films etc. You can cancel anytime.

No need for a 'box' if you have a smart TV.

There is a need for a box if OP's smart TV doesn't have the catch-up channels she wants. The now TV box is one of the boxes that would supply that option, I think. Paying a now TV sub won't get her those catch up channels.

Ah right. The box has the channels does it? Seems a bit crap that the subscription doesn't.

I think that's how it works though happy to be corrected - paying the nowTV subscription I think is like unlocking a premium "channel" (streaming service) in addition to whatever "channels", like All4 or iPlayer, you get for free.

Don't quote me on it, though.

I'm shocked the range of streaming options on LG TVs is so poor. My parents refuse to buy anything Samsung because of a long-running family grudge stemming from a dodgy microwave in the early nineties Hmm and are thinking about getting an LG.

I have an LG TV with ITV player and 5OD. They came installed, though, along with I player etc. The TV must be a good year old, too.

Repeat, my TV isn't a year old and it doesn't have ITV Player.

Report
Lovelise · 09/08/2015 16:12

Nor does mine and it's bloody annoying.

It is so annoying! Especially as the freeview reception is a bit rubbish where we are (ironically on ITV and all the channel 4 channels...)

I just nipped into Currys to ask one of their assistants as to what my best option was. The lady I asked took me over to the desk and started googling it... VERY unimpressed as I could do that myself. Annoyed we didn't get a Samsung now...

What did Google say Tricky?

You can get a Now TV box for a tenner, then cancel the subscription and you'll have all the catch up channels Inc. 4OD etc. Think it has YouTube as well.

I've been looking at smart tvs and didnt have a clue that some of them didn't have all available channels, how daft!

Good tip Bacon and yes, very daft!

Bacon - is that a tried and tested method? Anyone actually done that with NowTV?

I'm going to call John Lewis tmrw and talk to the man we discussed it with. My DH and I swore he said we could get all the catch up apps. If not I'm going to exchange it for a Samsung one!

Fwiw, DS was going to buy a smart TV (Samsung) & the bloke at Currys told him that as he has an XBox he can get all the same services that way without paying the extra.

Works fine as far as I know.

Have any of you got an XBox or equivalent? You can watch app TV on those.

DS1 was going to buy a smart TV from Currys - Samsung - & the bloke told him to save the extra £££ as his XBox would do the job just as well (& it does)

You do have to go in & out with the XBox controller though which can be a PITA
