Programmes/characters who aren't as you remember?

I've been rewatching the Good Life recently and noticed that Tom isn't very nice. As a child I thought he was supposed to be silly but lovable, but actually, from an adult perspective I can see that he's an opinionated dick and often quite mean to Barbara. Jerry who used to seem like an old fart is much nicer to Margot and altogether more jolly.

Are there any programmes or characters that you see differently when you come back to them?

I used to love Butterflies but now I am just irritated by Ria.

Pipbin, she was frustrating. Mooning around the park, stringing the rich guy along, allowing her horrible sons and dh to demean her. Her cleaner had more personality! I did like it though, my mum hated it. These days she would have slept with her stalker first episode.. Lol
Mr Benn isnt what he seemed. Hanging around that shop not paying for the outfits!

I hadn't thought about Mr Benn for years, but yes, he was an incorrigible thief Grin

Also, the man who presented Fingerbobs. I recently read that he was stoned a lot of the time he was presenting, which, thinking about it, makes a lot of sense. I just can't understand how no one noticed at the time.

I was relieved to hear Richard Briers in an interview a while back say that Tom Good was insufferable. One thing that changed for me when I got older was that I began to feel very sorry for Margot - she seemed to be in control but in fact most of her life was basically supporting her husband's career. And her comment that she never got the joke at school so became the butt of it was poignant.
Also, discussing the other day with a friend - Reggie Perrin was much darker on later viewing than we remembered as children.

Also agree Jerry in Good Life was much nicer!

I read the Reggie books, the fall and rise of Reggie perrin was the first one . A satire on the rise and fall of the roman empire my english teacher told me in year 7 ( year one in those days!) very dark character. Leonard Rossiter was rumoured to be very like Reggie in real life i,read once.
I think most of the playschool lot were on something too, all that jumping around and going through windows.
The magic roundabout crew were also very dodgy!

Magic Roundabout owed a lot to the evil genius of Eric Thompson ( father of Emma). He completely changed the original French scripts. For the better, I am sure!
Convinced anyone who worked on Playaway was stoned but it was rather brilliant in the terrible jokes department. Finger bobs is making more sense now you point out the presenter was stoned...
Mary, Mungo and Midge - why are a girl, a dog and a mouse living on their own in a high rise? Why did I not think it odd before?
