Don't think so, tfi was only broadcast Friday and negotiations for Evans to tske over top gear have been going on for months

Why would it be an audition ? You know what your getting with Evans, I always felt his immediate denial of being interested was I need to wait for the fuss to die down, before I can negotiate a big fat pay check

I think that's what's bugging me the most - his immediate denial of being interested when it first came up, followed by his expressions of, weeeell, maybe, but no no no no,' followed by, 'well, if they asked me...'

And I meant trailer, not audition.

Sue Perkins would be awesome. But it's all about the chemistry and you can't tell if that's going to work until they are on TV

I have reservations.
If they're going for a completely different format then yes Chris Evans would be good. I really hope they don't try to replicate the Clarkson/Hammond/May 'formula' because that's just going to land flat on its arse anyway.

If they're going for an 'all new' pretty much different show same title then Chris Evans should be allowed to pick his own team, not adhere to bbc 'criteria filling' presenters. A show like this does need chemistry.

All Chris Evans shows are just ego trips for him. He has to be the centre of attention, I don't think I'll be watching it past the third episode.

But Top Gear has been all about the presenters and not the cars for the last few years and in my mind an ego trip for all involved so no change there. As a true car enthusiast I think the show should become about the cars again.

I'm watching Sky news paper preview ad the Sun says Clarkson was offered the job back before it was offered to Evans

It won't work. I'll give it one series and then die a death. No Clarkson = no Top Gear.

I'm a petrolhead so should be happy with the choice but I'm not. Top Gear isn't about the cars. It's about the personalities and the humour. Chris Evans might like and know his motors but a Clarkson he aint.

As a true car enthusiast I think the show should become about the cars again.

5th Gear is for "true car enthusiasts", Top Gear appealed to many, many people - lots of whom had no interest in cars (like myself).

I always used the "serious" bit where they reviewed a car as an ad break & put the kettle on.....

I opened the thread to say I hope it will be her. Very funny, never lets the men have the upper hand but also never lowers herself to their standards IYSWIM and all in a second language! Pretty talented driver too...
