SPOOKS Fans - The Greater Good is really quite good

DH and I went to see this yesterday and enjoyed it enormously.

I know there is a separate forum for Films but I thought I would post this here because, TBH, it felt to me more like a feature length version of the TV programme and I think anyone who enjoyed the TV programme would like this.

Some of the reviews have been a bit sniffy about it. But I suspect that if you are not familiar with Spooks and just take the film on its own merits and compare it with, say, a Bond or a Mission Impossible or something it might not seem to measure up. However, to other fans I would recommend it. There are a few nice nods towards the fandom which I won't mention in the interest of not revealing spoilers

Oh and Kit Haringtom fans will probably enjoy it

Are you sure? It's one thing I would hate to be disappointed by.

The reviews I've heard/seen focus on the new hero's somewhat incredible youthfulness and, which is worse, the fact that the TV series killed any possibility of a decent film by killing off all our favourite characters. This second criticism is really causing me to drag my feet over the whole enterprise.

I imagine it will soon be on TV / DVD anyway ...

DH v keen to go and see it, but I'm very squeamish so don't want to watch any torture or head pushed into a deep fat fryer type of scenes.

What's the level of violence like OP?

In case anyone didn't know, Netflix has the box set of Spooks. I am just settling down to watch from the beginning again.

Granted there are not many of the original characters left but just enough for a bit of continuity.

The body count is quite high but it is fairly straightforward shooting stuff -nothing stomach turning.

It was up to and including series 8 - after that it went down hill. But given the possibilities with who they had left I thought it was a good effort.

We hardly ever go to the cinema but fancy it this weekend. It's either Spooks or Big Game, which I'm quite keen to see, although the reviews aren't brilliant.

I saw it on Saturday. I am a big Spooks fan. I have all the series on DVD. I saw it as a sort of swan song. I love the aerial shots of London, and the lovely Sir Harry Pearce. I took my teenage nephew, who knows nothing of the tv series and he quite enjoyed it, too.

I've watched every episode of Spooks, I nearly left when they killed Adam but we had Lucas then and kickass Ross so I stayed. Then they killed Ross but we still had Lovely Lucas, then they killed Licas and made him a baddie the fuckers, like that would ever have been true but I struggled on through that heap of shite that was series 10 and was soooooooo disappointed.

I really want to watch the film but am scared it will ruin any good memories of Spooks (which was brilliant most of the time). If they could guarantee a cameo from Lucas (we never actually saw him die, did we?) I'd be there like a shot.

I probably will still go anyway. :-D

saw it last night, really enjoyed it. DH (who hadn't watched any of the TV series how can I be married to such a philistine?) was a bit confused, especially when there were lots of "oooooh!s" when we saw a particular character doing their thing, as he couldn't work out how we were supposed to know that character.

Sad lack of Lucas though :(

In my head the dream Spooks film has Harry, Ruth, Ros, Danny, Colin, Tom, (but not Christine), Malcolm and Jools Sivitter.

I feel that this film is starting from a situation of insurmountable prejudice on my part.

As great as Richard Armitage is, his storylines were, without exception, utter shit.

RFos was only great second time around. First time round she had the Daddy thing going on. Much better when she turned all kick ass, and bought a proper spy coat.

I loved it too, but I wonder if you'd only like it if you watched and enjoyed the TV series. As OP says we also felt it was more like a feature length TV programme than a film but still loved it.

Might have worked as well as a TV mini series.

I was a teeny bit disappointed that more of the old crew didn't make an appearance and I could have sworn they'd killed Malcolm off, hadn't they?!
