I enjoyed the first season, not so much the second. Just catching up with the rest. It really got good! Just watching the last episode.

I did. I really liked it, though I didn't like the Gyp Rossetti season. I found him far too much like a pantomime villain.

I rewatched seasons 1 and 2 and picked up a lot of things I'd missed. I really liked season 2.

I love Boardwalk Empire but (like Mad Men) rarely find anyone else who watches it to discuss it with!

I'm up to Ep 3 of the current season (5) but DH is away so I'm on my honour not to watch the rest of the series until he gets back.

Too many great characters to mention really but some of my favourites are Nucky, Chalky, Van Alden, Al Capone (Stephen Graham is amazing), Rothstein and Lucky Luciano (Vincent Piazza) plays one of the leads in the Jersey Boys film and is excellent).

I watched the last ever episode last night and it was wonderful. The last series has been really interesting with lots of flashbacks, seeing how Nucky got to where he is now.
Really enjoyed it, but with this gone, last ever series of The Newsroom happening and no more True Blood, wondering where the good stuff will come from to replace them.

With the last episodes of Mad Men due to air in February, I'm going to be stuck for anything to watch. GoT and TWD are ok but don't really compare.

Very sorry that this has ended. The young Nucky was brilliant, with all his mannerisms.
Sons of Anarchy is good, and I might re-watch The Shield.

Yes I watched the last episode on Sunday, I loved it, I think it was as good as breaking bad and the wire.
Leftovers is quite good, the first series has just finished.

I loved it. I'm so sad that it has finished but the ending was just right. Young nucky was brilliant.
Nucky was such an interesting character, a really good baddy (a bit like tony soprano). And I liked the way they bought Margaret back.
Gillian's ending was sad. What a horrendous place that was.

And I forgot chalky and van alden. I love how a good series makes you sympathise with such bad characters.

I love BE but I was so disappointed in the last series. It took ages to get going and then seemed to end all of a sudden, only 8 episodes compared to 12 in all the others.

Young Nucky was fantastic, he had every detail perfect.

Spoiler alert
I didn't care enough about Gillian for the last series to have so much focus on her. As far as I was concerned she'd got her comeuppance for Jimmy (I loved Jimmy Sad) and that was that. We already knew that Nucky had 'given' her to the commodore so it took ages to tell us something we already knew.

I would have liked to see Margaret's children, just to see how they turned out.

Another spoiler alert!
Also didn't think there was any need to do that jump forward for the last series. We missed Rothsteins death, Chalkys family after death of Maybelle, story behind Luciano's eye.

I have to agree with Icantuckmyboobs.
I LOVE Boardwalk Empire but I have never been so disappointed in a final series of a TV show.

The whole Nucky hating his Dad and his sister dying and the Gillian/Commodore thing was all spelt out before so completely pointless.

So much time wasted on Patricia Arquette and Havana - boring.

All that time on Al Capone and Luciano when that is well known anyway- filler.

The stuff with the history lessons about repeal of prohibition and Joe Kennedy popping up - pointless and boring.

The characters like Van Alden, Chalky White, Dr Narcisse that were interesting just shot in the end - lazy.

The writers just didn't seem to have been arsed to bother with any real storyline. They just looked up 1931 on Wikipedia.

The whole Tommy Darmody thing as poetic justice was a bit trite and underexplored.

Gillian was such an uber bitch latterly - even knowing before what she had gone through- that actually I didn't really feel sorry for the fact she ended up in an asylum having had what was probably some sort of shock therapy and a hysterectomy.

SO DISAPPOINTED. ( I have been ranting about this since Saturday).

Yes, there did seem to be an odd jump forwards in time. All of a sudden, Rothstein was dead! I liked him (I may have slightly odd taste).

However Vincent Piazza is my new crush Grin until Mad Men returns, then I'm back to Pete Campbell.

Aww, I thought it was a great way to wrap up the series and loved seeing the younger versions.

Also, I developed a bit of a crush on Nucky (the character, not Steve Buscemi), how weird is that Blush

Pete Campbell! He gives me the serious creeps. How could you?

Have to say I had a bit of a thing for Rothstein as well. I think it wa shis suits.

I know, it's a serious failing Blush. He is so wrong but oh so right Grin

NOOOO, OLD Nucky, as acted by Steve Buscemii!

I really enjoyed it. I may have to go back to the beginning quite soon.

I'm thinking of buying my DM the box set (when there's a version which includes Series 5) for her retirement. She'll love the Gyp Rossetti s&m scene Grin

Respect to your DM sorrelForbes. My mum didn't like sex scenes but was totally okay with gratuitous violence.

Her favourite films were Straw Dogs, The Godfather, Sexy Beast and Eastern Promises.

As long as the acting's good she'll watch it Wink. She's a Mad Men fan too although I think she prefers Don to Pete.

I've whizzed through this thread without reading it properly, because I have only watched Season 1 and am halfway through Season 2 and don't want to read any spoilers! Grin. So far I love it (although I like to watch it on my own, because the characters can get confusing) - especially the New York lot Confused.

Can somebody tell me - Will they be showing the final Season Sky again? I would have recorded it if I'd known it was on!

I watched the last episode last night.
I'm pleased it had an ending. I was gutted about Chalky though but over the moon about Narcisse!

The time jump confused me too, there were 7 years between penultimate and last season (supposedly) and Rothstein (sp?) had died in that time so they just dropped him.

My favourite characters....in no particular order....

Richard (with the mask) - I cried when he died
Chalky
Jimmy - swoon value
Al - the last scene with his son left me a bit choked.

I really enjoyed the flash back sections, both the young Gillian and young Nucky were great! I felt for them both.

Connecting with characters is what makes me enjoy TV Series and this has been a good one.

We are still watching them. Still at the end of season 3. so am trying not to read this thread actually..

I find it a bit gory at times, but do like the storylines.
