I'm ashamed to say I only watched season 1 of this series last week, and despite some dodgy Brummie accents I really have enjoyed it. Cillian Murphy isn't exactly hard to look at though it he wink

Season 2 starts tonight, 9pm BBC2 and is apparently set 2 years later. I was hoping for a Tommy/Grace happy ending but I don't think I'm getting it sad

ArabellaTarantella Thu 02-Oct-14 18:13:43

Cillian Murphy is my secret swoon - I think he is beautiful! Added to that he is playing Tommy Shelby - and I've always fallen for the 'ard ones blush

So tonight, woe and betide ANYONE that even DARES to speak to me after 9pm !!

Did Grace (?) get shot......or didn't she?

Rollergirl1 Thu 02-Oct-14 20:38:40

I loved first series but can't really remember what happened! I really liked the guy that married the sister, can't remember his name. Was it Freddie?

Tom Hardy is in this series so think will be good!

SistersOfPercy Thu 02-Oct-14 20:49:10

Freddie thorn married the sister yes, they broke him out of prison in the last episode.

I think we've seen the last of grace. Dh reasoned it was the copper who shot himself but as he's in the new season it couldn't have been.

Rollergirl1 Thu 02-Oct-14 21:06:18

Oh no he's dead!

SistersOfPercy Thu 02-Oct-14 23:17:45

Is he? I've not watched it yet, I'm reading spoilers now because I'm bloody crap at being patient and Dh wanted to watch shield tonight.
No grace then I take it?

I LOVE THIS PROGRAMME!

I have spent the last week or so merrily watching series one on the iplayer.
I swoon when Tommy say his heart is 'already broken'

And also whe Tom Hardy is ever on my screen

VenusStarr Sat 04-Oct-14 12:12:21

I'm so annoyed that I didn't know this was starting this week sad I need to catch up. I loved series one. Episode 1 was quite bad with the accents but I persevered and loved it.
Can't wait to watch smile

SistersOfPercy Sat 04-Oct-14 12:53:19

Right I'm caught up. Poor Ada sad

Anyone else think the hold that Campbell has over Tommy is Grace?

PillForgettingIdiot Sat 04-Oct-14 12:59:36

My friend has a role this series! I am very excited smile

ThursdayLast Sat 04-Oct-14 13:16:29

percy that's exactly what I think too

ThursdayLast Sat 04-Oct-14 13:16:58

Tell us who to look out for pill!

SistersOfPercy Sat 04-Oct-14 15:39:27

Interestingly according to IMDB Grace is listed as 2013-14 yet Freddie is listed 2013 so I do think we'll be seeing Grace this season.

Nice to see a softer side to Pol as well.

And yes Pill! Who are we looking for? grin

PillForgettingIdiot Sat 04-Oct-14 15:41:19

I don't know yet! She's been purposefully secretive about it!

All i know is she's got a speaking role, a number of scenes with Cillian and I'm going to have to watch to find out. She's a pain in the arse really, isn't she?

quirkychick Sat 04-Oct-14 15:56:25

Ooh, loving this, I watched it on catchup last night and need to talk about it. So excited this is back I am a great fan of Cillian Murphy's charismatic acting wink.

SistersofPercy-great name btw- I think you're right about Campbell and Thomas... there's more to that final scene from Season 1.

Poor Ada and poor Tommy too. Who is the real villain, Campbell or Tommy?

ThursdayLast Sat 04-Oct-14 18:25:54

Are you feeling sorry for Ada because of how she was attacked? Because she didn't seem too bothered about the death of Freddie did she?

I am so in love with all of the mad Shelby brothers. The acting/writing must be incredible for three entirely crooked, violent and fucked up men to be so appealing.

I also think Esme is a great addition.

SistersOfPercy Sun 05-Oct-14 10:23:57

I think Ada was putting on a front for the benefit of her family TBH, she wanted to appear strong and independent and didn't want to be pulled back into the family.
I felt sorry for her attack though.

quirkychick Sun 05-Oct-14 14:58:59

Yy because she was attacked and will always be a Shelby. What happened to Tommy's men who were watching her?

Very exciting ending,.can't wait for the next installment!

ThursdayLast Sun 05-Oct-14 15:02:49

Yeah, I wondered how hard they were looking out for her too! But I got the impression she wasn't that sorry to be burying Freddie - she said she was 'free'. I don't feel sorry for her, because I feel like she may well be the strongest out of the lot of them IYSWIM.

I love love love this programme.

Arthur + cocaine = wtf were you thinking Finn?!

SistersOfPercy Thu 09-Oct-14 23:37:11

Made me smile they took the whisky from Finn but let him take the coke.
Can't see this ending well for Arthur.

ThursdayLast Fri 10-Oct-14 07:31:47

No me either sisters. I thought most of the performances last night were mesmorising - starting to find Sam Neil a bit hammy with his pantomime obsession with Tommy.

Tom Hardy though. I can't not watch him.

SistersOfPercy Fri 10-Oct-14 12:56:22

Helen McCrory was brilliant again last night, really did feel for her. And yes, Tom Hardy, oh yes! Though I'm sure he was doing Bane's voice grin

Anyone interested in the history of this show and the real life peaky blinders, The Garrison pub was sold earlier this year, nice little article about it here

quirkychick Fri 10-Oct-14 13:54:31

Thanks for the link, Sisters.

I loved that Tommy had pissed off Campbell by disappearing out of the hospital and writing directly to Churchill. A lot of references to soldiers and sticking together. How the war has brutalised this generation. Tommy was given a medal but what did it do to him, to Arthur.

SistersOfPercy Fri 10-Oct-14 14:17:38

Tommy was quite harsh on Arthur last night I thought. I guess he was going for the tough love approach.
