Just started, like a really disturbing MN thread.

Yes I'm watching. Very chilling. Even worse that it's a true story.

It's creepy!

I wasn't sure how to take it at the start, with 2 lead actors who've both been in comedy programmes.

Very disturbing, I popped out a second, how long later is this now he's getting married in New Zealand?
I do love Sheridan Smith in anything she does though.

This is so creepy

Is it really based on a true story? I love Sheridan Smith too.

Yes, a true story.

It is creepy (and scarey)

Very creepy, is he the guy that was in league of gentlemen?

I didn't realise this was based on a true story. What's the guys name? I want to Google the story.

Just watched it. It is awful knowing it is based on a true story (Malcolm Webster apparently).

Scary how easy it was for him to get away with the first murder. Reluctant to google in case it gives the rest of the story away.

Oh my god, how bad an actor is that murderer? I find it really hard to believe someone as smug and uncharismatic as he is could find one wife, never mind two.

Report
ImperialBlether · 17/03/2014 22:10

In the real situation, he killed/attempted to kill his wives with car accidents - presumably the second one was what made the police investigate. This guy, though... surely when a fire breaks out they can see what causes the fire? I've read my Sara Paretsky novels!

I'm watching it on catch-up now. What do you think would motivate him to change his mind about killing wife number two just because she announces that she's pregnant? I just find it amazing that someone who is so money orientated could feel any emotion towards an unborn child!!

But then not enough emotion to stop from attempting to kill the child's mother...

I guess I just don't understand what goes through these people's heads...

I watched this with interest as I'm from Aberdeen,

It was very well done I thought, and so chilling, his control of Claire was very disturbing, no one suspected him at first because he played the part of the grieving widower so convincingly, it wasn't til Claire's body was exhumed that police became suspicious.

Somehow none of it is convincing enough to be disturbing. It would work better if he was portrayed as a charming, attractive guy,not a weird-looking oddball.

Clawdy - but the real Malcolm Webster isnt charming or good looking.

Report
Clawdy · 18/03/2014 20:06

You are right, Gossamer - just googled the name. But I think it might have been better then to have him played by somebody very ordinary-looking, not the rather strange-looking Reece. For me,none of the characters seemed remotely believable.

When is part two?

Oh, does he try and bump the second one during this episode too? And was someone watching him while he was at clares graveside?

Southeastdweller · 19/03/2014 13:35

Tried to watch this but Reece Shearsmith's casting didn't impress me. He's too much on my mind as a comedic actor and there's something about his face, too...like it's too expressive for drama.

DameDiazepan I am in full agreement with you! About as sinister and disturbing as an episode of Doctors.

It was ok, but Sheridan Smith is seriously overrated. I watching something a while ago she was in and she was crap.

er posh voice was a bit rubbish I have to admit.
