So this Septimus Noone bloke was completely made up? What was the gravestone that Jonathan's wife saw all about then? Or was he a real person and the wife/her friend just used the name?

I really don't have a clue what I just watched! I used to love Jonathan Creek (and I mean LOVE it - I've got the series' box sets and can watch them over and over) but I have been so disappointed with all of the new episodes from the last couple of Christmas specials to this new episode. So we, the audience, knew what happened from the start but no one else did? Where's the fun in that? The solution is meant to come out of nowhere! And I genuinely didn't care about any of the characters - no cohesion to any of the storylines and all completely something and nothing. I feel so deflated

They chose the name because of the gravestone. I was very upset with the David Tennant wannabe, he clearly knew he looked like my beloved DT, and acted up to it :(

I was that we saw the crime before they worked it out, but I wonder if the family stuff was supposed to be the 'main' mystery?

Glad I'm not the only one disappointed with Jonathan Creek . I was really looking forward to it (sad I know) but it was rubbish - no mystery what so ever !

I agree, it was awful, and I've been looking forward to it for weeks now.
We've never been shown how it was done before.
Hugely disappointed, they must have changed writers.

I quite enjoyed the Phantom of the Opera references in the musical as I saw it a few too many times during my teenage years. Leading man looked like Raoul, she looked like Christine, there was the boat sailing on the mist and there's even a hanging.

I think the Sherlock/David Tennant side kick was definitely deliberate and it did make me smile when he tried to deduce JC had been on holiday to Iceland.

Not quite sure what the point was of having the mystery known to the audience, but I think the 'main' mystery was meant to be the thing with Polly's parents.

I came away rather confused. Why was the make up artist so keen to protect the musical actress character? Or was he protecting tthe stage door bloke and his wife? Also, the way it flashbacked to her being hit in the stomach by the plank of wood suggested that might have been done deliberately to aggravate the wound? ?

And the business with the Dylan Thomas book, the other book and Orez written on the photo - the significance of all of that to the plot washed over me (or perhaps my brain had switched off by that point).

I thought it was mostly drivel. The stuff about the wife wanting to pretend she was having an affair so the husband didn't miss her too much? - who the hell would think that was a good idea unless they were deranged.
very little else made any sense either.
Alan Davies looked a bit bemused throughout.

On the plus side - I love sarah Alexander and if they can sort the plots out I think she'll really be a major improvement on some of the previous female leads.
And I did laugh at the funeral director's attempt at making Polly's Dad look happier

I really disliked having the solution before we even had the problem. Hope it improves by going back to the tried and tested format. Will watch the next one and if it doesn't, will sadly have to give up on it.

But we didn't have the whole solution - after they found her I couldn't understand why nobody had found the prosthetic stomach she took off - they showed very clearly that she flushed the dressing down the loo, but the prosthetic was still in the room. But nobody found it - if they had they would have realised she had been stabbed before she went into the room.

So that was the mystery that got solved (the bit with the painting).

I was pretty disappointed, I am a MASSIVE fan, have the box set and everything, but thought it was rubbish that the audience knew the secret all along, the whole point is to try and figure it out while watching!

watched it on iplayer this afternoon. It was crrrrrap.
WHY would the mother have gone to all that length to stop the dad "moping" about after her death?
And the stabbing plotline was awful - we knew from the start! I was expecting some twist...but the twist never came!

It was really disappointing. I was very puzzled as to why they decided to let the viewers in on the locked room stabbing, as it lost all dramatic tension - most of the fun is in trying to work it out (though we'd seen the exact same thing in Sherlock a few weeks earlier, so we'd have all worked it out anyway. I don't know when they filmed it but I did wonder if they'd got wind of the Sherlock episode and changed it for that very reason.)

Of course, at the end, the actress survives, so she could have explained to everyone what happened anyway...

The Septimus Noone mystery was a bit daft and rather implausible.

I suspect that David Renwick is playing with the audience and saying, "We know what you expect from a Jonathan Creek episode, and we're not going to give it to you."

It was bloody awful and so disjointed. So disappointed because I was always a big fan.

Jonathan was so thoroughly unlikeable in it too. Falling asleep on his grieving wife, dismissing her problems, monosyllabic, uncommunicative. It was like he hated her. I know he's supposed to be an introvert but he's changed to be a smug arsehole.

Where was the mystery, the humour and the windmill?

I think the point of that was that we could all have fun knowing how that particular 'crime' was done whilst watching the DT lookalike get it spectacularly wrong; also, I don't know about anyone else, but I did wonder what had happened to the prosthetic skin. The real mystery was the business about Polly's mother. So it didn't depart from the 'tried and tested format'.

Also, I really didn't feel that Creek was being an arsehole with Polly: he seemed to me to be wholly supportive. The poor sod is entitled to sleep, after all.

And Kerry, did you really find no humour in it? What about the undertaker's efforts with Polly's father, the child from hell, Jonathan's fight with the bloke in the audience, and the posey Tennant lookalike?

The one where dress as skeletons for Halloween party and kidnappers an go into garage and dissapeer and turned out was foam bodies and stuffed into paint pots

And the bodies dissapeering who slept in the room and turned out they get black stuff dropped on them and have a bath and bath tips into tank and they drown

Rem the male/female one :)

Most have been clever but didn't like this one as we knew who/how/when/why :(

Whilemykids and nenny - the rubber stomach was shown. The make up artist went back into the room and saw stomach under a towel and he hid it in the painting tho why he didn't wear it his self and dispose off would have made more sense

Did wife die who hung herself? :( and why didn't the actress said what happened to her when out of coma

The storyline of pretending to have had an affair so that her dad won't mourn was pathetic

The robot Hoover was funny and clever. I need one of those. Does it just find dirt/crumbs (and ashes) and Hoover up?
